Gigabyte 7950 Crash help please!

Hi, I bought a new GPU on saturday(been playing with onboard for awhile). It's the Gigabyte 7950 WF3 on FX1 bios with the 13.4 drivers from the AMD website.

My Specs incase it helps:

Intel Core i5 3570K
GigaByte GA-Z77-D3H
CORSAIR CX 750W
Corsair Vengeance DDR3 160 (2x4gb)
OCZ Agility 4 128GB SATA III S
3G GigaByte HD7950 GV-R795WF3
Win 7 64bit

on a 24 Acer S240HLBID LED LCD monitor.

The problem is that it is crashing my display/monitors on some games and not others. When it does crash my sound/display goes off, my pc crashes(confirmed when a friend said I wasn't on steam) but all of my fans stay on, the CPU/GPU/PSU and case are all still running. I haven't had a chance to test it on resourceful games such as crisis etc but when it is crashing while waiting for a game on Dota2 something's definitely not right. I downloaded the heaven benchmark and it crashes as soon as the dragon's frame disappears.

I have tried different drivers, messed around with MSI afterburner/Trixx and even underclocked it lower than its defaults to try and get it to work. And I'm stumped, I've already contacted scan about returning it however If I can fix it I'd like to as I've heard good things about it for its price. Getting it to work is the problem for me and from what a Google search shows is a lot of others too.

Any ideas? I'm relatively new to this kind of stuff
Cheers for any help!

Is the card a pre factory Overclock version? is the core above 800mhz? if so you might need to adjust the voltage a tiny touch to make it stable. 6+ might be all you need.

Try Memtest86 first though.

Okay I think my card has an issue with directx11,
I've tried heaven benchmark on custom settings(directx9, ultra, 1900x1080, full screen) and got 60fps on GPU defaults

Crashed on directx11 with only basic and much lower resolution.

Ill do the memtest anyways tho

I have the same card and I'm getting the same error! My display crasges, monitor goes into powersave mode. I bought the Far cry 3 bundle from Overclockers, It's never been right! Crashes seem random. I just can't figure out what's causing it.

what motherboard bios are you using? I would use latest bios first

or latest beta bios which is
GA-Z77-D3H - F19h
http://www.mediafire.com/?wp1pb7a7q3k413m

can you please try with x.m.p profile1 set in the bios for your memory
manually set the cpu pci/bclk to 100
set vcore voltage response to fast
set pwm phase control to extreme performance

just flashed to that beta bios you provided.
set profile1 and cpu/pci bclk to 100

wouldn't let me change the other 2 as they were stuck on auto...

it should let you change them if it wont adjust or save you have to clear the cmos and reflash the bios then try and change them

changed it to 3d mode and it let me change it there,
can I ask what those changes you suggested actually do?

just tried heaven there, crashed just the same :/

it speeds up the response of the cpu voltage and the power phases, the quicker they can react the better, depending on the load of the cpu,it will improve stability whether overclocked or at stock

if its still crashing then it could be gpu or driver related

EDIT: try setting the peg speed to gen2 rather than auto see if that helps

when it crashes does it crash to desktop?

Those D3H MOBO's can be a pain. I have read many threads involving those MOBO's with various errors from not supplying the correct power to the PCI-E lane resulting in crashing (sounds like what is happening to you) to the GPU not even being recognised.

I would try everything possible to test your 7950 in another machine, because it seems like the GPU may be ok but that mobo isn't. It could save you the RMA money at least and could help confirm a bad GPU or mobo.

I can't tell because my monitor goes off but I'm assuming so as the whole pc is still powered/AMD sound error takes over/if i disable it then the heaven music still plays.

Is there a way to make the onboard graphics take over if the GPU does this?

Don't think you can, only last thing to try is try with 1.08v CPU/vtt in the BIOS,I can't think of anything else other than a hardware fault somewhere or driver, any BIOS updates for the gpu? I know they update them regularly
