I honestly can't believe this! So, BP spilled a shedload of oil into the sea, 11 people died, millions of animals and their habitats died/were ruined, and they're complaining about paying compensation amounting to more than their fine. They were trying to get out of paying fines and are now complaining.

I'm really quite outraged by this. Continue squeezing money out of us and shutup! Stupid BP.

It seems more that they're complaining about paying compensation to ridiculous/fraudulent claims rather than having an issue with paying legitimate compensation.

Have you thought of reading the article before forming your opinion?

Must have taken a while to come to this conclusion as obviously, BP don't want to be associated with being British and asking the BRITISH PM for help is basically validation.

Which the Americans, in all their wonderful intelligent glory, desired in the first place.

Of course you could also say that the compensation being misused, is perfectly legitimate to offset that, but the US thinks their government is the best thing since Jesus...so.

Who decides whether a claim is ridiculous or fraudulent? Don't like huge legal bills when you screw up? Don't do business in the USA.

BP agreed to the approach being taken. They don't like the approach being taken.

Seems a bit daft to complain now. Can they not afford lawyers that would've pointed out what they were signing up to?

Agree with Gilly, they agreed to it - tough.

I can see why they're annoyed, but they should have ensured protection against abuse at the time, but they were too busy trying to be Mr Nice Guy.

It's all well and good kicking BP when they're in a rut but in reality they do need the government to step in and talk to the US. You need them too, I need them too, we all do. BP are one of the biggest contributors to pension funds in this country, if they go under, we are all in serious trouble.

Taking the article at face value, they are asking the government for help with getting the US to cooperate with investigating fraudulent claims. Claims brought about by supposedly devious accounting practices. Surely it's in everyone's best interests that these kind of things do get looked at, this exact situation aside?
