Audi owners in here!

On the Audi vs BMW quality point.
It does come down to personal preferences and perception.

Taking the steering wheel as an example - I compared Audi A5 and A4 Black Editions to the BMW 3 M-Sport, so a similar high level spec across the models.

The Audi wheel just isn't as special - it's perforated leather vs soft touch Nappa leather on the BMW.
The buttons and scroll wheels on the Audi are clunky and give little feedback. On the BMW they are indexed and when pressed they feel precise & solid.

:: EDIT ::

Another point - The Audi pedals are really offset to the right. The clutch pedal lines up with the centre of the steering wheel so you actually need to sit at an angle to drive them.

The 2.0TDI TT makes no sense to me but seems to make up the majority of TTs I see out an about.

Nice sleek convertible with a tractor engine, great. Mind you all the A3 and A5 convertibles seem to be 2.0TDIs.

I could understand not wanting the cost of a V6 in your daily drives but the 2.0T is a pretty good engine, nice power, reliable and decent economy.

I think I'd rather have a new A3 over a TT. The TT is due for replacement in 2015 according to what I was told by my sales guy at Audi.

You wouldn't dream of buying an A3 cab at the moment "because it's a platform from 2003", but the exact same is true of the current TT.

Least the TT has been facelifted a little in 2010.

There was a "special edition" A3 cab 1.2tfsi in the showroom last time I went, you'd have to be mad to get that. It wasn't even particularly well specced, no mmi/nav screen, no xenons but had s-line seats and thats about it. :o

You won't get MMI in the a3 cab, as its still the old crappy A3 platform... Like the TT, no MMI in there either, just the incredibly aged RNS-E.

Well they still call it MMI when you start it up on the TT. Plus it's not such a big deal, I use the SD card slot mainly on my car and the TT has two behind the screen.

They do indeed call it that on the start screen, but it's not MMI. It's a slow, clunky all in one system with limited car integration, crap nav, and poor media options. There is no MOST bus in the car at all.

Don't be fed the marketing spiel, a new TT now is bonkers, and interior/spec wise is a step down from your A1 IMO.

The new A3 on the other hand, with its MMI touch, and new A6 inspired interior, is lovey, and a massive improvement over both the TT, the old A3, and your A1.

Yes, the new A3 is very nice.

I wouldn't say the TT interior is a step down, dashboard plastic etc feels different, but it would have leather/suede sport seats, climate control as standard etc.

In fact, the new A3 MMI screen felt huge compared to mine, centre console was very neat with no physical hand brake and a nice armrest but also felt a little bare like something was missing, especially when there is just one line of buttons.

Or perhaps its just the new minimalistic look. :p

I must agree, when looking around at the A4 a while ago, the stock steering wheel just felt poor. The optional 3 spoke wheel at £80 is good value and looks and feels much better imo

Having just come back from a Holiday in North Devon, I thought it would be appropriate to give some economy figures as I've not really done much motorway until now.

I averaged 57.6MPG, and used a little over 2/3rds of a tank for the ~550 miles I covered travelling to, from, and around North Devon. This has brought my ownership average (~3k covered so far in the two months of ownership) to 53.2MPG, which considering my daily usage is really impressive. I'm seeing a consistent >700 miles from a tank.

Can't wait until Winter rolls around now so I can see what it manages to the French Alps and back.

How are people's oil usage on the 2.0tdi?

56 reg 140bhp here, got full service 1,400 miles ago and low oil binged and needed to top up.

Neither of my two (current one or previous 62 plate) used a drop in the 3,000 miles I owned both. I don't really like the lack of dipstick, having to rely on the car warning me is a bit concerning.

Granted they are both relatively "new" so tolerances will most likely still be tighter than one that's properly "run in".

My 2.0TFSI used to use oil though, about a litre every 2,000 miles.

Spoke to my mate who serviced it and says it is quite common, sometimes they just like to gulp he oil for no reason what so ever.

Topped up and will just keep my eye on it.
