Insurance - why do they make it so difficult!?

i recently called to change cars on my insurance. to a similar car.
fair enough, but administration fees of £25 to change details on a 2 minute call is ridiculous.

hmphh.

Admiral will waive the fee if you just get the hump and tell them you don't want to pay it. Seems odd given a customer is very unlikely to cancel more than half way through over a few quid.

that's the thing, i've paid in full until july*, i had to pay £25 admin fee and £25 for the new car, which was 16v instead of 8v same litre etc. (if that makes sense)

My wife had to change her policy (new car) with a month left to run, the admin fee (£26) worked out about the same as the effective earned premium remaining! Didn't seem worth the hassle of cancelling though what with NCB etc.

Anyway to answer the OP, one thing to consider is that policy adjustments may well use a different rating engine from new business. The call centre operative may not be able to override this even if they wanted to, hence they don't price match.

I'd love to know who thinks up this stuff. Couple of years ago midway through my policy i changed from a 1.8 petrol Laguna to a 2.0 diesel Vectra, got told that my company 'didn't insure that type of vehicle' I wasn't aware i'd bought some sort of high performance car!!!

The kind of insurance company who doesn't cover Vauxhalls ... I like your insurance company :D
