Nvidia surprised the Titan outsold the year-old GTX 690 in just 3 months. We’re not.

Many people will buy the Titan purely on the marketing + the performance.
People like to show off 'oh I have a £800-900 GPU'

All nvidia cards are over priced because people hype them up so much.

I would bump the price up if people hyped my stuff more than its worth.

The titan is the start of things to come from nvidia, there prices wont be low any more.

Why do people hype them up? I mean to be fair Nvidia is better than ATI... More expensive and worse value for money but they do make better products... I have owned many ATI and Nvidia and the Nvidia cards are always more reliable, run smoother and have less driver issues etc. You get what you pay for I guess... But I agree that Nvidia are being silly with pricing recently but all the people with too much money are buying cards such as titan and reinforcing this behaviour :/

I don't see that much of a problem though because they are still releasing mid-high range cards which are almost as good as the flagships for reasonable prices... For example GTX 670... 90% of performance of GTX680 and £100 cheaper.

If this proves anything, it proves that the consumer perceive multi-GPUs such as SLI/Crossfire are still flawed (relatively speaking) comparing to single GPU...

Both companies should go back to basic and focus more on improve single GPU performance, rather than stripping the amount of performance increase year by year and keep trying to shove multi-GPUs tech in our face that still not perfected after 9 years down the road...

I have just done a search on 3dmark firestrike

There were

7919 GTX 690 results
8333 GTX Titan results

So going on the above, the Titan has outsold the GTX 690

On the older 3dmark11

There were

38897 GTX 690 results
10295 GTX Titan results

The 3dmark11 results figures are probably distorted in favour of the GTX 690 as it has been around a lot longer and their owners would have done more runs per card.

This makes me worried that they have bought into their own hype and now think its ok to make the 780 silly money

This reads to me, we're going to charge 900 pounds for high end gpu's from now on.

I have been saying this since it was released, Yet people were like "OH SHUT UP DIAGRO J00 A FOOL"

Happy its not just me ;)

I don't think the market will buy into £900 ish for a top of the series part. Could be wrong but I don't see it. £550 would be what I would say would be the utter maximum before sales start to sharply drop off

I reckon the 780 will be £650. They know they cant last long charging £900 for a mainstream card BUT.....they arrogant enough to think £500 isnt enough anymore. I like Nvidia I really do and I have no preference which I buy but I think from here on in the green team are going to be out of my price range.

agreed. nvidia still has to compete with amd. nvidia are great at marketing, and this statement is perhaps trying to justify whatever price goes on the gtx 780 next month, but even nvidia wouldn't be able to justify flagship £900 cards every generation.

edit: apparently amd and nvidia have been accused of making cartels before... well i might be suspicious if the 9970 also turns out to be £900... :p

It goes to show that some folks are happy spending a lot of money on their hobby. Nobody told them to buy it and nobody recommended them to buy a Titan (or 2/3/4) but they have still sold very well. From Kaapstads research, you can see that Titan is mainly being sold for gamers/benchers and not work stations.

If the 7 series sells well at whatever price point you see, it will be the norm for all top end GPU's to be priced very high.

I look forward to the crying from the usual suspects when they see the prices :D

Why? Just because you, I and some others can afford to spend that on a GPU, the majority can't. All this will do is send more and more people towards the new consoles and PC gaming will die off. You will probably be able to get one of the new consoles for less than a top end GPU. It's pure greed in my opinion, but if people are willing to pay it then I can see why they'll continue to keep high pricing.
