Parking Ticket

Hi guys,

I parked in a carpark that uses that annoying RingGo thing as it's payment method. Annoyingly when I tried to use it, the app kept crashing at the payment card bit. I tried the phone number also, and it said it didn't exist?!
After a while of trying, I got fed up and crossed my fingers...

I came back later to find, surprise, surprise, that I had a parking ticket. £100, or £50 for early payment.
I can't just ignore it, as it's a council one, rather than those dodgy companies.

Now, my question is, is there any way of appealing this? (I'm aware they'll just say that i could have continued attempting to call the number or whatever).

I'm scrutinising the ticket at the moment, because it's got all the information relating to the time etc, and the manufacturer of the car. BUT it does not have the model written down, even though this is clear as day on the back of the car. Could I use this? Or am I truly clutching at straws? :(

Thanks!

Yeah, my phone's been a bit dodgy recently, so the blames probably more at my doorstep to be honest!

I think i'm just going to man up and pay! :(

Does the number work or not? If not then use it as a reason.

My council lets you pay the reduced fine up to 14 days after you receive a reply to your initial letter of contest. If they do this as well then it may be worth contesting.

And that's not steep as my council, £65 reduced or £130 full.

Funny how they can afford to employ a dozen enforcement scumbags, buy them a scooter each and pay for a minibus so the gang can roll in style. There must be A LOT of illegally parked cars in Newham. Silly councils terrorising their own neighborhoods .

I never quite get this. People get in a huff when they get a parking ticket, why not just...not park where you're not supposed to, or get a ticket for the proper amount of time?

Obviously if it's unreasonable or unjust, then fair enough, but most of the time it's not.

Well personally, in my neighbourhood, every time I've seen a car get ticketed or impounded if they don't move it in an hour, it's always been down to pure negligence or accidental, not because they're actively aiming to get away with parking illegally.

The sheer fact that a day long permit costs 50p, yet a fine costs £130 is proof that they are simply preying on negligence.

seen this happen a few time sin the car parks by my work, it's pay and display and has the option to pay via phone. saw one day the machine wasn't working (most of the people who park have work permits) but there was this one car which left a note in the windscreen saying something along the lines.

"I've tried to buy the ticket from the machine but it's broken again. I did try phoning the number to pay via phone but after 15 mins of trying the line wouldn't connect. please contact me to discuss before you give me a ticket like you did before"

which I though was fair enough, they obviously couldn't pay by machine as it was bagged and about the phone being down... what do they expect people to do if the phone line is down? I though it was a pretty good idea to put their number up and explain..... unfortunately the warden didn't feel the same and there was a notice slapped on the side window. I'd like to think they tried to call the person before issuing the ticket but I doubt they bothered. :(

I was given a ticket in tesco before for being there only 45 mins (out of the 2 hours allowed) because I left the premises :\ despite doing a £60 shop in tesco and then popping going to the bank for 5 mins (the tesco is smack bang in the city center). I phoned up and asked why I was given a ticket as it didn't state a reason on the ticket and the times were correct of arrival and showed i was within my time... to which they said "you were seen leaving the premises on cctv,to use this car park you are not allowed to leave tesco property". I was like.... WTF?! are you serious?! what a load of bull that was!

well I hope they drop the fine for you as you tried your best. I say again, what do they expect people to do if their facilities are down? just leave a few quid on the bonnet? xD people have places to go, I wouldn't want to have to drive around finding another car park which could be further away if I was rushing. would have left a note though ;)

Never heard of that happening and they can't be sitting there monitoring CCTV constantly seeing who leaves the premises and working out what car they are from.

People use the tesco here like that all the time - aslong as the shop in tesco its never been a problem.

that's what I thought and pretty much called it bull, but I just argued my case that it's ludicrous that people aren't allowed to leave the premises.... I know there's a few who do... but who really spends close to 2 hours going round tesco? about 1% of it's customers...if that? most are in and out in 30mins... I can;t remember what happened in the end but I think they dropped it.

only realised i had a ticket after driving off and trying to use the wipers to get rid of some fresh bird poop :o but yea, i've never ever heard of anyone else getting a ticket for that reason.

with regards to everyone else paying in the carpark, maybe they got lucky and when OP went to do it their lines went down/volume of calls was huge. going off the assumption that it's just one number you call and then theres a code for the carpark you type in etc etc or something? (dunno how it works)
