Ideas for a cheap sleeper?

Bora is based on the golf platform which is totally different to the B5 platform, it wouldn't bolt straight on. I'd imagine it would be loads of work if not physically possible to try and get a v6 twin turbo in there!

I might have to keep my eyes open for a cheap passat then, my neighbor always has them, I'm sure if I wait long enough he'll have one that he'll part with on the cheap!

Both very common (well, more common than you'd think). Loads of people have put BMW V8s, BMW V12s as well as RB20DET and other silly engines. Lots of modified M20s too, including 300hp + M20B25s. The most silly I've seen on the web is this one:

Problem with the E30 is that they are often associated with being sleepers/powerful/modified cars now.

Yes still got the Golf, and yes it's still bonkers! :D

It's off the road at the moment and needs some welding etc done. Struggling with room to work on it. Once I start the work maybe I should revive *the* thread!

Agreed.

I know of an e38 derived V12 powered e30 touring!! - although to look at it, you'd not guess...

Hence my initial e34 suggestion....

A V10 powered "518i" - I'd love one so long as it looked standard.....

Takes me back to a mate who bought a stolen & recovered Sierra Sapphire Cosworth, he replaced the stolen body kit & interior (including badges) with those from a 1.8LX model, bar the fat tyres on steel rims and large exhaust, you'd have never known until it left you for dead - it ran iirc 350bhp!!

I've always fancied a sleeper.....

I also wouldn't mind 4wd, but either very limited with options (can't go for any subaru, that wouldn't surprise anyone!) or a lot of work making a fwd shell take the 4wd running gear.

I think I'm going to trawl ebay looking for local treasures, might find a starting point!

Put the turbo'd MX5 engine into the BGT, much like the LE50 special. It's been done a few times before but is far rarer an option than the V8.

I nearly decided to go that route with mine but I had a V8 laying about so went that route. Also V8's sound better :D
 
Ex police vectra vxr, its got the 2.8 turbo engine but in sri trim

Not here for the massive "why would you buy an ex police car" argument, just expressing my surjestion.
