Think i'm finally about to upgrade from my i5700, which i started using again after a bad experience with Motorola (i know, i know, what a surprise). Anyway, i've not been following that closely and i was just wondering if the Nexus 4 is still on top in terms of price/performance? What other options are there?

Wow, you are stilling using that phone!?!?

:p

Buying brand new....yes. The main weakness of the N4 compared to other phones is the camera, everything else about it pretty much competes with the current flagships.

If you are willing to buy second, these are good alternatives that would be about the same price, perhaps cheaper:

- one XL (someone recently got one for £200)
- one S (make sure it has the S4 chipset clocked at 1.5GHz)
- GS 3

Actually camera on the Nexus 4 isn't as bad as some make out, it's video recording were it's a let down in my book.

I ordered one on Thursday, should have arrived on Friday but TNT "ran out of time"

So it should be next day delivery at the moment.

Grabbed one for Android development, still keeping my Lumia 620 as my daily phone.

I know! I'm kind of impressed with how much life it had in it :P

Anyway, thanks for the help, looks like i'll place the order in a bit :)

TBH, I am surprised that it is still going well for you! :p Mine was becoming a disaster in the last few months (around March last year, it would have been about 2 years old), having to do a factory reset/reflash every few weeks, battery drain, restarts, slow downs etc. (could have been down to the ROM/kernel as well though!)

It was a nice little phone and the community at samdroid really made it 100 times better

Checked there the other day out of curiosity and they have even got ICS CM running on it now, probably a ton of stuff not working though :p

Isn't there going to be a newer version of it out soon?

Probably not till November/December.

Can't even remember what ROM i have on it, but yeah... restarts and slow downs sound about right :p I've mainly just been using it for messaging.

I have the Nexus 4 and love it. Definitely the best sim free phone on the market if you want to buy outright

That said, I think another brilliant deal is the Galaxy S4 for £27 a month on contract. Free phone through quidco and £27 a month isn't too bad IMHO for unlimited everything. That's with O2
