So I went for 2 x U2713HM's...

I'll bet that the backlight is better on the DGM than the dell. It's quite obvious to me that dell are knocking their monitors out as cheaply as possible these days. No way will I buy another dell.

Certainly looks worse than mine. Below is the worst of my 2 DGMs:

The top bit is only visible from a certain angle - I can't tell it's there normally. But the bottom is more persistent.

Not the best of quality but hopefully you get the general idea. It is the SAME monitor that I have talked about previously.

I have been able to get it working now but I am not sure about the backlight bleed. What do you guys reckon?

Thanks :)

It depends on what it looks like in real life and whether using it in a dark room is important to you. I've bought three of these recently and another I returned. In normal use they are great, no pixel defects and excellent colours even before calibration. However they all have the slightly yellow bleed bottom left and white bleed bottom right, but not that much worse than the U2410s I replaced. This is only visible in the dark or near dark though once the brightness is reduced from the excessive default. It's tricky with the bleed and IPS glow as the larger the screen the more apparent that becomes as well.

I considered the Asus PB278Q but wasn't sure if PWM would be a problem as well as the Viewsonic VP2770 but decided the huge stands would look horrible with three next to each other (and didn't fancy the extra cost of changing them).

Given I change monitors every few years I figure the U2713HM is great value and there is some compromise to accept, unless you wish to go through numerous swap outs.

Worst quality/reflection ever but I have now got both up and running (be it only one at 1440p).

This is the first one like above:

This is the second:

The bleed does always seem to be in a similar position.

One other thing I am pretty confused about is that these are revision A00. Is there not A01 out now? If there is I am going to moan at Dell so much.

Thanks :)

I think most of the u2713hm stock is exactly like this. I have given up on getting a good one and will buy something else. Would rather pay a bit more and get something built to a higher standard. Shame as it would be an awesome monitor minus the light bleed issues.

I've seen a couple of screenshots of A01 versions and they look similar and from the Dell forums it looks like its a firmware fix only, possibly for the high pitch noise. I have that noise on all three but only on using a test application I wrote for monitor testing on the test that fills the screen with 8pt black text on a white background. If that becomes a problem in use I will be returning them or swapping for A01 if Dell can manage that.

Mine don't look quite as bad as those pictures but it may be the lower brightness used once calibrated.

I don't mind the bleed on my DGM's because I only paid £300 each and wasn't expecting them to be perfect. I'd be pretty annoyed if I paid extra for a Dell monitor that was no better than the cheaper brands.

Yep I knew it would be a risk. For that price I want them perfect.

I also found the resolution made the text too small. That might be just me being stupid though :)

Cheers

You should expect the Dells to be almost perfect because you could get one for half the price with similar or maybe better backlight bleed to what you have pictured from one of the lesser known brands such as Hazro etc. That is not really acceptable for the price in my opinion. The best company for QC is NEC but they are not great for input lag. I have a NEC 20WGX2 and it has 100% perfect backlight bleed.

To be honest, if you're going to put up with bleed like that, buy a DGM and save yourself £100 per monitor. Bleed is not as bad, picture quality similar - only downside is a naff stand.
