Anyone pay for bank account perks?

Interesting thread.

I'm now considering upgrading my account as my breakdown cover has expired and the piece of mind with the phone insurance would be nice along with the other perks.

No that very link mentions the £6 per charging period for some of their accounts.

Not directly, but I've just followed the link about changes to overdrafts and see what you mean.

Looks like I'll be looking even harder for a new account now!

Guys, guys, guys.

You don't pay £10 a month or £120 a year for recovery service that you can get for £35 per annum. Or mobile phone insurance that costs a tenner per annum when added it as your home/contents insurance

But most of all - don't feed the troll. You don't pay bank to take your money.

All of that tat should be free add on to regular free accounts considering interest banks offer over the last few years.

Halifax pay 14.50 for the perks, Only reason i ever took it was so i didnt get charged to be in the overdraft, which i use quite often near the end of a month, got my phone added to the insurance thing, doubt ill use it though.

Haven't had a fee paying account for years. I don't care what metallic colour my card is available in, nor do I require an overdraft at rip off interest rates. All the other "perks" I either get elsewhere for much less, or wouldn't be eligible for in the first place (travel insurance specifically - due to preexisting medical conditions).
Seems some of you need to visit MSE and compare the true costs of your accounts...

It amazed me why people use overdrafts when they could be using a credit card for the same situation, despite being told they'd NOT be paying interest and on their overdraft they're paying 18.28% a month, and they get rewarded for purchases on a credit card as well as potentially improving their credit rating they still happily sit in an overdraft paying money.

A lot of people may moan about charges and stuff, but they still don't do anything to avoid charges and save money, they just can't be bothered!
