Yahoo buys Tumblr for $1.1B

Why would they buy tumblr, it's not even cool. The reason tumblr has lots of users is you can post whatever you want, no moderation. Now yahoo will be filtering it like facebook to keep it family safe and nobody will use it. Biggest waste of money.

I didn't actually know there was one. No one uses it though :p

In fact, the contest isn't even close. Yahoo Japan--the country's largest portal--has 95% of the online-auction market, where last year $1.6 billion worth of goods were traded. By contrast, eBay Japan--whose only business is auctions and whose parent dominates online auctions in the U.S.--has a measly 3% of the Japanese market.

I didn't even 'Yahoo' back in the pre Google days. Just typing in Yahoo.com shows why the got such a thrashing in search engine game. My eyes. :eek:

I shudder at the thought of there being a time 'Before Google'. ;)
 
Your all forgetting Yahoo answers.

Every time i google something, yahoo pops up with an answer. I love that.

Although agree'd i dont understand this acquisition.

The only thing funnier than 'helpful' responses posted on Yahoo Answers is any advice posted on Mumsnet. If I could only visit two internet places for the rest of my life it would be these two.

Yahoo Answers does actually have some good answers to genuine questions. I've found it helpful from time to time but have also laughed hard at other responses to some questions.
 
Interesting aquisition for a company that already owns Flickr, could they be planning some sort of horrbile mashup?

I can see the logic of the purchase but not the price, Tumblr is vastly popular with youngsters I'm sure it's more popular than facebook with 13-25 year olds or something. Not sure the future will be so bright as I'm sure Yahoo will have to introduce some sort of content filter which may well kill the services popularity.

i thought that, tumblr is full of stuff that a family orientated business wouldn't like to be associated with
