I always think if you're going Ti then don't get it painted, but that looks cool.

Are the tyres 25mm or larger? They look a little chunky to be 23mm.
I think they're 25mm, though apparently 28mm can be accommodated if you don't want mudguards. The Di2 version doesn't seem to be available to purchase, sadly (thankfully!). The versions with standard shifting aren't painted black.

Ok then I won't post any pic
..uhhoh how did that happen?
Those look like the Aquilo. Getting on for £4k worth of bike there, maybe more depending on the wheels :o

No, I must resist. I've barely broken in the Yukon that I've had for nearly two years.

Er well if you want to donate it to someone who would actually use it...

Ok I'm after some art work. Vintage type cycling art work, photos of greats, newspaper reprints perhaps, tasteful stuff that can be blown up (high res) and framed. Any suggestions :)?

dunno it always was a "He" bike/triban/buratino ?!

"So... how's it like riding her?"

Sounds better than...

"So... how's it like riding him?"

For a male cyclist anyway. Even my work colleague who's gay calls his bike a female name, "because it sounds naughty riding a male named bike in public" (LOL!).

its a him mkay and i love riding IT ;D

I hope this is in the right place. I'm just after a little advice.

I'm planning to buy a new bike. Something cheap and cheerful for riding around town.

I know that my money will go further if I buy second hand but I don't know enough about bikes to know if I'm getting a good deal or not. And if there are any serious issues, like rust, I might not notice until it's too late. So, I'd prefer to buy new. Also, I don't have access to a workplace cycle scheme.

I've looked at hybrids and mountain bikes and settled on the latter. I don't plan on doing any off-roading but I think I might feel a little safer with a mountain bike when the roads are wet or icy.

I'm thinking about buying a Rockrider 5.0 from Decathlon. It's had some decent reviews and is comfortably within my budget of £200.

I'm just wondering if anyone could recommend any other bikes for under £200 that might be worth considering.

Thanks ;)

I'd try to find something with a rigid fork rather than a suspension on. At that price suspension is going to be heavy and will absorb your energy as much as the any bumps in the road. Besides, you don't need suspension for UK Roads.

With regards to grip it's contact area that's important and although MTB tyres are wider the knobs mean that not all the tyre is making contact with the ground. With slick tyres the whole contact patch is gripping. Slick tyres provide more grip on tarmac than knobbly tyres.

Car tyres have tread to stop shift water and stop aquaplaning because of the width of the tyre. For a bike tyre to aquaplane it would need to be doing about 200mph.

On ice the only thing that will grip is tyres with metal studs, doesn't matter if it's knobbly or not.

I think this looks a better bet: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/...uctId_922789_langId_-1_categoryId_165534#tab2
