VW dealership trying to con the wife?

The 'Aircon service' is due? Is it really? I would be amazed if it was - generally AC is not part of the scheduled service regeime. I'm not up on the VW scheme but I'd triple check this because I'd be very suprised if the AC service was 'due'. What I suspect is the case is that they want to do an AC service rather than it actually being due.

Another classic dealer tactic.

They will "recommend" an aircon service every other year (or thereabouts) despite the fact that the aircon is not part of the required schedule by VW.

I saw this the other day on Seat's website:

http://www.seat.co.uk/content/uk/brand/en/services-and-accessories/maintenance/air-conditioning.html

Air Conditioning Service

WHEN?

We recommend having a service on your air conditioning system every other year.

WHY?

Your air conditioning system can lose up to 10% of its gas each year. Unless it's replaced, your air conditioning system will be less effective and efficient, leading to increased fuel consumption. Moisture and outside influences can also cause bacterial and fungal contamination which could lead to unpleasant smells, poor airflow, irritation to eyes and nose and, in some cases, cause damage to the internal components of your vehicle.

Its not required by VW (or by Seat), its not mandatory for your warranty, and is just something they offer to get more money out of you. Again, standard industry practice in the motor trade. Complaining to the management won't get you anywhere as they are all on it, and take the view if you don't know better, then its your lookout.

They didn't charge us full whack...they attempted to overcharge us.

That implies that pricing is fixed. Its not.

As already explained to you, they are free to set whatever price they want as long as they do not exceed the maximum.

The prices you will have been quoted will have been the full recommended price, exclusive of any offers.

You don't quote the offer price, you get charged the full price..... its not illegal, just not very good customer service. But they don't care, as for every person like you that questions it, there are 20 who just hand over the credit card without a thought.

The prices quoted were above the maximums set for authorised dealers under the VW fixed pricing scheme to which this dealer subscribes. This was confirmed to me today by their Business Manager and Service Manager.

It isn't an offer price, it is a fixed price as stipulated. They can discount them, they cannot exceed them.

And who said it was illegal????

I honestly doubt they will see it that way. But good luck anyway, let us know how you get on :)

I did a few posts ago...they apologised, and offered to do both services for £80 all in....we also get a 25% discount on our next Service Plan as a courtesy for the poor service we received the wife just told me.

I understand they were trying to pull a fast one, and I realise this is not exclusive to VW..but you should expect better, especially with dealers who pride themselves on their service, integrity and honesty as this one claims to.

According to VW if it isn't done every 2 years it will destroy your mpg then need repairing :P
