i7 3770K idle temps high!

well i re did my h80i thermal paste reseated and such today, and i know the paste usually takes sometime to settle to take full effect, but im idle'ing at 51c which i find bizarre i have OC'd from 3.5 to 4ghz though but not needed to change voltages,

has anyone had this with this cpu and cooler before or any suggestions to make it better, although when i have the cash i am thinking of either a swiftech h220 or a h100i to replace with.

just to add when not overclocked it will sit in 35c's but i want more performance i have seen the h80i perform well even with being a single rad, oh and my configuration is push pull.

What CPU voltage is being used in CPU-z at load? Temps seem very high to me for idle

its using 1.92-1.200v at load with 91c

, it makes no sense though its using 1.264v in idle?

what board are you using? your proably using a fixed cpu voltage so you'll see high idle temps,you need to use offset cpu voltage then it will use less than 1v at idle

the voltage is on auto, so ill probs need to fix it to around 1.2 i would imagine and its a msi z77a g43

maybe 1.15v-1.18v

trouble with the msi is it doesn't support cpu offset voltage as far as im aware

yeah i noticed that, stuck with the +0.000002 or something so ill just have to work it out and tinker with it, you think it will reduce temps or?

yeah,the lower the voltage the lower the temps,you shouldn't need much for 4ghz

its because its running full 4ghz and voltage = 51c at idle,when at stock clocks its entering idle state,offset allows the idle state while overclocked but I don't know msi boards at all so can't help you much on that

yeah i just watched a vid on my board theres another menu set which has a lot of seperate options for voltages and such so i can actually get to the voltage you said about haha thanks for your help much appreciated !
