Girl hits cyclist then jokes about it on Twitter.

Indeed it is, however if you drive a zero emissions car you do not pay any 'road tax' to use the road. I don't want to derail the thread but thought it was worth clarifying this point as lots of people mistakenly bring out this argument whenever they want to have a go at cyclists.
Correct. I don't own a car, but I do own a bike, and I pay for the upkeep of my local roads like everyone else, as it's paid for through council tax. Similarly, national transport infrastructure is paid for through general taxation.

Given that, should people with bigger houses and higher salaries have right of way on the roads?

Didn't everyone in here recently agree with the destruction of a Paris Brown's career when she made some inappropriate revelations about her personal life?

Oh wait, that must be different...

I'm fed up with cyclists and i don't even drive!! There moral supiorty is enough to ban them from the roads. They don't pay road tax, they reckless and when they get into an accident is automatically the drivers fault. If you saw how they act in central London you'd agree with me.

Do you have any views about anything that aren't backward?

Also: Their* Superiority* They're* it's*

Also: No... I wouldn't agree with you....ever.

Also: Road tax doesn't really exist. It's vehicle tax and it certainly doesn't apply to cyclists.

I think the more that people actually suffer consequence for their apparent bulletproof internet anonymity attitude of thinking they can do and say anything the better personally.

Wow, what a complete moron. The idiocy of people on the internet never ceases to amaze me. I hope they throw the book at her.

I bet she's not so smug now.

The fact this is reported on a cyclist-propaganda website called ipayroadtax.com makes me wonder if this actually happened.

The fact a motorist openly admitted hitting a cyclist proves it did happen, whether the two people involved are the same is more difficult to prove ;)

Edit: There are some douchey motorists and some douchy cyclists... As a pedestrian I notice them all the time, but then again there are some douchey pedestrians too! As a general rule of thumb, there the good, the bad, and the douchey in everything.

Edit2: These guys are the worst...

Shockingly bad behavior deserves a custodial sentence and to have her License revoked.

I don't have a problem with most cyclists on the road however there are the 2 odd groups that do just annoy the hell out of me because they don't seem to have any sense:

1. The incessant road user - We've all seen these guys no matter where they are even if the pavement is clear and signposted as a cycle lane they insist on using the road and generally holding up the flow of traffic when they could pull in and allow the more dangerous road users to pass but no!.

2. The selective traffic light colour-blinded ones - Again we've all come across the cyclist that seems to believe even tough they are out in the road that traffic lights don't mean a thing to them and will flippantly run red lights without due consideration for their own safety or others.

There is one road user I believe shouldn't be there at all because well it's just a bad idea all round - Horses as road users in the modern age shouldn't be allowed:

1. It's bad for the flow of traffic.

2. It's unsafe for drivers.

3. It's unsafe for the riders.

4. It's unsafe for nearby pedestrians.

5. It's generally bad for the horses to stand on let alone walk on hard surfaces as it damages their legs.

For these reasons and probably more Horses should not be allowed on roads.

end rant!

For all intents and purposes of the law, a bike is the same width as a car.

Shouldn't they wait in traffic at the lights like everyone else then? Cyclists seem quite happy to squeeze by on the left with only a few inches to spare to get to the front at the lights, but expect everyone else to then swerve into the other side of the road to get past them again after the lights go green? And if you're giving them the same room as a car, you're going to be going right into the oncoming traffic lane.

yer_averagejoe seems to think that drivers should just sit behind the slowest traffic at that point :)

She's a complete moron and deserves to be spoken to and the appropriate action taken by by the police against her.

However I find it a disturbing trend the witch hunts that quickly now happen on te Internet contacting her employee etc. it's vigilantism in the modern day and a very worrying trend that will need to be clamped down upon at some point. People go out of their way to ruin someone's life behind the anonymity of the Internet under the heading of "good cause" where as in fact it's just as spiteful and hateful as the trolls and Internet abusers out there.

yea I don't see why it has anything to do with her employer if it wasn't an works van or something or her job is as a driver and her road safety is important.

we've seen the same thing on here though someone posts something about being infatuated by a stripper/pole dancer and we get people wanting to find the guys GF on facebook so they can link the thread to her.
we also had the guy asking how to removal a picture from google images , someone found his pic with a lady boy and some people wanted to post the pic to the guys FB friends

Well that is the point of the separate cycle stop areas at traffic lights. They shouldn't squeeze through on the left though. They should do what motorcyclists do (i.e. follow the rules of overtaking). I stop close enough to the kerb so that they can't go past on the wrong side anyway.

So how do you suggest horses get from their stables to the areas they can ride, or from one area to another when out on a hack?

I suggest a solution to that, turn all the country lanes that used to be dirt roads and byways back to dirt roads... I'm sure plenty of car drivers would love that. All the 4x4 drivers and motorcyclists would love it too.

Unfortunately for your suggestion most of the roads you drive down were designed for horses, then covered in tarmac in recent times (and yes that is still going on in the UK).

Get off your high horse (...) And maybe think about learning to ride... The only real danger on roads to horses/from horses are inconsiderate divers driving round country lanes to fast.
