Hey guys,

Looking to "Beef" up the mothers laptop as its as slow as hell.

Its a Asus X58L. (except this one has 2gb of ram and is running XP Pro.)

Currently has a Intel Celeron M575 2ghz 1mb cache (PPGA478)

What would be a good Cpu upgrade for this?..can it even take a Dual core?..say something like a Pentium Dual core?

I searched on a well known auction site, and a INTEL PENTIUM DUAL CORE PROCESSOR T2080 came up for that socket but was only 533 MHz FSB and 1.73Ghz?

Also looking to get a cheap SSD drive and replace the crappy 5400rpm drive in it.

Appreciate any help.

Well she only browses the web and listens to music on Youtube..so i think 2GB is plenty on XP.

Its just the hard drive is chugging along all the time, and the 478 cpus are super cheap now so thought wth might as well upgrade that too...but i need to make sure im getting the right CPU that will work in this laptop.

Purchased the following,Should be quite a difference right?

CORE 2 DUO T5750
32gb OCZ ONYX SSD

Going from

Celeron 575 (Single core)
Hitatchi 5400rpm HDD

What you guys think i should use for the OS?...Windows XP Pro SP2 OR Windows Vista Home Basic (Have key on bottom of laptop)?
