Got my s4 on Friday
ordered my case last night should come today bit like an idiot
I accidently dropped it and the screen has cracked into hundreds of peaces
I got it from phones4u
and I don't have insurance :/ anyone know the cheapest place to get it repaired I've read up that on the new phones you can not just repair the glass it's the whole screen that needs to be replaced :(
Spoke to phones4u and they said a rough quote of £150 as the phones New and they can not be exacted as they need to evaluate it first

That's probably the best price you'll get, you're looking at £150 from ebay just for the part then you'd have to fit it yourself.

Would that case have protected it though? Considering the amount of glass and if it was hard floor, I'd assume it would still suffer a slight crack somewhere.

It happened @ 8:30 dropped from a hight of about a foot onto concrete without a case
the case came @ 10 :( bent over to stroke my dog and fell out of top pocket
broken quite easily I say my iphone fell out my bedroom windows and servived, at first it had the tiniest cracked in the corner like top to left about 1 mm , was thinking "thank god for that it hasn't cracked just chipped the corner , my case will cover it "
Put it in the tray in my car driving to work then seen the screen like this almost cried lol

The screen does seem to be pretty weak (probably the phone etc. is just too thin), either people screens are cracking or the AMOLED panel itself is cracking/breaking:

And quite a few more threads saying the same thing.

Is it just me or does each version of gorilla glass seem to get weaker each time? :p Gorilla glass 1 seemed like it could take the impacts a lot better than GG 2 and GG 3 and didn't scratch as easily either....

As said though £150 is a pretty good price for getting it repaired.

EDIT:

btw Is there really much point of using a screen protector now? :p

It could be the design of the S4 or it could be that with nearly 10 million sold, we could be seeing some freak accidents.

Not including the OP's one as that was actually dropped.

True, there does seem to be some form of a problem with the AMOLED itself breaking/cracking though under some pressure though, could just be 1 or 2 bad batches too.

I agree, having had the S2/S3/Note2 and now the S4, it seems they're becoming more fragile at the expense of a lighter and slimmer phone.

Screen protectors holding all the glass together ;) got a little bit of it in my finger yesterday lol
so soon as I got home from work put the case and protector on lol

The main reason so many screens are cracking/breaking now is because the bezels are getting smaller and the screens getting bigger..
So With hardly having any bezel to take the shock from an impact all the impact force goes straight to the screen....

Plus you most likely find the Gorilla glass is much thinner on the lastest very slim mobiles like the S4

Hi, got my new S4 approx a month ago, got it out my pocket last night and noticed only the AMOLED screen is cracked, spoke to Samsung customer service just now, who wasn't very helpful and they basically they said it was physical damage, this was in a Aegis case protector and had a screen protector fitted too, so basically told them it seems the phone is not fit for purpose, to which they told me to go see the phone provider I bought it off!!! Any thoughts??
