My mains charger has died and I can't find my spare one, so I'm charging from my laptop or my car. Where can I be sure I'm getting a genuine charger? Rainforest and the bay are both selling lots of them around £3 claiming genuine and reviews are mostly positive but mixed, with some saying theirs went bang or stopped charging quite soon after. So I'm not sure. Mobilefun website however is very expensive, between £8 and £18. If it's below £8 is it likely to be fake?

To be quite honest, I'd get a better charger (such as the one already posted). The one that Samsung shipped with the GS2 is woefully under-amped.

Ultimately any USB charger will do, all they are doing is supplying the amount of amps that the charging circuit demands (up to a maximum that they can provide). Samsung have just provided the minimum amperage in the charger that they can whilst still being able to positively charge the unit whilst its under full load. (i.e. the battery doesn't drain when you are playing a game but have it plugged in, it just charges more slowly).

Personally I have stopped using the Samsung one and use the one that came with my girlfriends Nexus 7, a nice 2 amp one like the one for the GS3 posted.

Literally all micro USB chargers will work with every phone that has that connection.

All are 5V and it's just the Amps that vary.

Stock S2 one is 5V 0.7A = 3.5W max.

The one I linked is 5V 2.0A = 10W max.

Your S2 will work with it and only draw the required 3.5W.

When you get a new phone, rest assured it will be compatible with that to and pull more power as needed.

Nokia. HTC, SAMSUNG, Moto, Blackberry etc (everyone but Apple, they need adapters) all use the same type of chargers since about 2010.

HTH.

The S2 charger is identical to the S1 right?

I bought a brand new, legit branded S1 charger off some chap on Play, cost me £3.60ish.

I bought a cheap charger off either of those two big online electronics/media retailers and it is absolutely rubbish. It does charge my phone but just so slowly that the battery percentage still drops if I continue to use my phone.

kona, I started to order that charger, got to the confirm payment page but then saw it said delivery (on free super saver delivery) was 27th to 30th. So I abandoned it and in the end went with a 'genuine' S2 charger on the bay because I need it fast and it'll be delivered friday. It was £4.99, so with any luck it might be genuine.

On a slight but similar tangent, why do they insist on sticking LEDs the brightness of the sun on usb chargers I don't want it glowing away like a night light next to my bed!

No idea, I just stick a bit of blu-tack over it:p

Very true but almost any third party one does of which I've got a couple because they were cheap enough just to leave wherever I might need one or they came with docks.
