What happened to the samsung green thread?

I've noticed that people don't seem to recommend it as often as they used to, also it has gone very expensive.

This one?

I recommend it still, just as much as i used to, it's great RAM. Also, it's the prices of DDR3 in general that have increased, not just the Samsung Green. Even so, £124 for 2x8Gb kits of very good low profile, overclockable RAM isn't expensive.

Yeah I still like to recommend it too. Great RAM and price for the quality. Infact I think I will pull my Sammys out again tomorrow and see how they fly on Haswell.

Nope, ram doesnt really need a heatspreader at all. It's mostly for show and upping the price if you ask me. Though if you desire it for looks sake, you can purchase aftermarket heatspreaders to stick on it.

but you can fit an EK monarch on them for the look right :D?

You can do anything for the look but memory does rarely benefit from cooling other than sub zero.

Samsung like air or -40. In between not much improvement.

Ive found elaborate heatsinks/pipes to be a hindrance on ram a few times. Have 6gb of ocz reaper in my x58 rig. The big tall heatpipes limit cooler choice, even the heatspreaders on the sides of it are quite chunky.

Will the Samsung Green dual / quad kits work fine with a Gigabyte X58-USB3 ? i.e. just not using the 5th and 6th slot.

I see you can use dual kits on tri channel boards but the compatibility of the RAM itself as x58 isn't listed on its compatibility list...

they was super cheap when the first came out, but all ram has doubled

I have 16g of this green memory still yet to overclock it:)

Still kicking myself I didn't get any when they first came along - seemed like I'd have plenty time and/or they'd be followed up by even better RAM. D'oh! :(

Oh dear indeed.
I had the most overclocking fun i've ever had when the Samsung Green came out. Go and overclock them man! :)
