Did not realise there were so many murders in the UK!

Of course it was only 250 in 1960, But a lot has changed since then!

The current rates also fail to take account of the fact that Trauma care is Far better than it was in 1960.

People are now routinely surviving assaults that they would not have survived in the 1960's

The rate of "Murderous Assault" is far higher than even the current figures suggest. It is just that "Murderers" are getting away with it because their victims have good doctors!

I have often though that, with the improvements in medical care that we have today, that we should have an offence of "Murderous Assault" which would carry the same legal consequence as if the victim had actually died on the basis that they would not have survived without significant (#) medical attention

(# what Significant might mean is a subject for further debate)

What like attempted murder charge?

What like attempted murder charge?

I would not be at all surprised if a lot of "Attempted Murders" actually go through the system as "serious assaults" (For various reasons)

My proposal is that the definition is rather more specific. If the victim would have died without Significant medical intervention. The assault should be treated the same as it would if a Homicide had actually occurred! (Note, I am not suggesting that all Homicides should be treated as Murders btw)

And, as I said. the meaning of Significant needs more work

1-2 women are killed per week by domestic violence. Never any mention of this on the news is there.

Nothing but cowardly men beat a woman, especially in front of children. You'll never see these types fight a real man. Cowards.

um some of those arent even murders...like the Oxford professor who died of seemingly natural causes after an altercation - is not murder.
and this one:

Kyle Rees 16 was hit in the head by a ball (possibly a cricket ball) and later died, a 16 year old boy has been arrested in connection with the death- Charges have been dropped and the incident described as a tragic accident

So yeh the sites a crock of ****.

So the latest one (according to that site) is in the Bedford area... woo!

"un named 4 yr old boy

Male victim of Fatal Violence
Thought to be motivated or linked to: Dont know

WEAPON linked to to fatality: Not identified yet"

Wtf?

An accident you say? Those terminators are getting smarter!

Not wanting to downplay the significance of murders but one thing I find quite shocking is how blase people are about the number of people killed in traffic accidents.

When people get murdered, it is fairly big news (at least locally) typically over multiple days yet the numbers are dwarfed by the number of people killed on our roads and they only get more than a passing mention if there are was a big incident with a whole family wiped out or whatever. On average around 35-40 people are killed every week on our roads compared to maybe 12 murders. Imagine if a bomb went off killing 40 people week-in, week-out for a whole year.
