Hi guys,

So after some very helpful feedback in a different thread I have decided to upgrade and overclock my existing system instead of giving it to my other half, and just buy her a pre-built.

At the moment she is playing DayZ on a laptop and tops out at a massive 11 FPS, I want to get her up to 30+ and would like her system to be able to cope with future games on a medium setting.

I know this is hardly a good benchmark to use when guessing what systems to buy but do you think this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-344-OE&groupid=43&catid=2475&subcat=2485 with upgraded 8GB RAM and the GTX 650Ti would do the trick? I'm trying to keep it below £450 and this system looks right on the money.

I am way out of touch with Hardware as I built my last rig back in 09...

Thank you in advance for your kind advice.

i3 or FX 4100 should do in DayZ. You can overclock the FX, for the ivy stuff, you'll have to upgrade later to a i5 if you want more performance. For GPUs, 650ti would be minimum spec for decent gaming. I'd expect 40+ FPS with that kind of setup, depending on graphical quality.

I would personally go with a Intel build. IMO, it's a bit simpler, and Intels are good all rounder and no need for complications like overclocking and 3rd party CPU coolers.

So, a i3, and a H77 motherboard, or a B75 (simpler, cheaper business-oriented board, make sure of features like numbers of USB3 and SATA connectors), 8GB RAM, a decent PSU (500W+. Bronze certified), and a decent GPU (650ti OC / HD7850, or better). Pre-built, or build yourself, but around those components for a sub £500 build.
