Official GTX780 review thread

Has any of these reviews answered the question

Why does the GTX 780 perform worse v the Titan @1600p than it does @1080p

There seems to be a widening gap between the two as the resolution increases.

I am susceptible to smooth game play, as I say Ive not noticed it tbh, but I admit I have been using fraps to give frame time results and never used FCAT.

I will need to read up on it, is it something I can use to test?

No, not unless you have a dedicated capture card on a separate system with multiple SSD's ;).

Very impressed with the Vortez review. Nice work whoever put that together.

Thx :)

Gregster I can ask what these time graphs, represent/mean ? Please

They are the time it takes for the GPU to render each frame (frame time latency). Anything over say 30ms-50ms (depending on your own perception) will be seen on screen as a slight to bad stutter depending on how long it takes to render.

nah not that much, I might be wrong.

Yup, we were using a reference 7970 at reference clocks(non ghz) which affects the results slightly. This along with Cat 13.3beta drivers. Sadly, we didn't have time to use the very latest AMD driver due to severe time constraints in getting the 780 review out in time for launch. As with all drivers though, new drivers can benefit some benchmarks while hinder others - same with games.

What i found interesting in the vortez review was the max oc titan was slower than the max oc gtx780.

Aye, this was down to the 780 clocking really well to 1200Mhz :). The TITAN wasn't quite as fast and of course the GTX780 was benched the new launch driver.

where can I find FCAT? I want to have a play with it.

it requires specific hardware, it isn't just a piece of software, and it records gigabytes of full res video footage, it is something that has been given to several review sites but it isn't something you can really set up at home

The 13.5 beta 2 makes quite a bit of difference.

tbh I don't really look at all of the review sites I usually wait for anandtech review and go by that, they for me have always been good (no offence to other review teams)

I will wait for reports on here as the users are the best reviewers.

When you consider the GTX 6XX series are a year old, shouldn't we have expected 20% more performance at the same price bracket? Instead of 20% more performance and 20% higher price?

Does seem a bit to much of a hike. Took this from conclusion of one of the reviews

"It isn't the best value in terms of frames per dollar either, that belongs to the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition."

That's all you need to know if you want best value VS performance. Otherwise go for the 780.

Aye, it is very expensive to setup. PErhaps the biggest outlay are the SSD's, of which you need plenty in a RAID setup to reduce latency when capturing the video.

Frafs benchviewer is a much cheaper alternative although not quite as accurate (this is debatable) as using a dedicated capture card.

Aye I'll try and run the 7970 again with new drivers but with 'other cards' on the test bed taking priority due to upcoming NDA dates its difficult to find the time benching every card with multiple drivers to find the best for each game/benchmark before launch as I'm sure you can appreciate. I have matchsticks in my eyes after the last couple of days as it is lol!

You don't need to, you have already explained why the results are slightly off and most know on these forums know what new AMD drivers bring. Good review.

I wonder if any of the GK110's have a full 15 SMX's as that is what is theoretically available on the core.
