How much caffeine is too much caffeine?

The combination of continuous assignments and bad organisational skills means that I drank an awful lot of coffee through college while staying up late/getting up early to do work.

How much caffeine is unhealthy? If we assume that there is 100mg of caffeine in a cup of coffee, how many cups per day, constantly, could be damaging?

I get extremely irritable and restless if I haven't had my fix for a while, and I get tired earlier than I used to before I started consuming so much.

Now college is over, i'm starting to cut back.

If your considering it then you already know it's too much.

I know i'm drinking too much caffeine. :p

I was just wondering how much is considered too much. There are varying points of view accross the internet, some say 400mg, some say 600mg, some say X cups in Y amount of time could be fatal, or X mg in Y amount of time could cause Z etcetera.

What is your understanding? :)

i guess it depends on your build. same thing with alcohol, some people will be drunk on a pint because they are very short, and others who are much taller dont feel the same effect?

+1

I suppose that would be a contributing factor yeah. I have also read that some people have low caffeine tolerance and others have high caffeine tolerance, irrespective of size, age, build or gender.

The effects of caffeine lessen and you begin to build up a dependency as time goes on as well which is why I 'need' an awful lot more caffeine now than I did when I started college. I used to have one coffee when I woke up, and one in the lunchbreak. At the end of college I was drinking one when I woke up, one when I got to college, one in each of the three breaks, one after college, and a couple in the evening.

I now have it cut down to 4 cups a day, but I do get cravings in-between which I try to ignore. It's probably best if I keep weaning myself off of it and then stop drinking it entirely to be honest, which is what i'm aiming for...

Consuming caffeine on a daily basis is too much caffeine - period. It should be used if / when someone needs a pick-me-up, not the opposite where you fear feeling run down / tired without some.

Many teas and coffees are available in decaf, not to mention green tea etc.

I used to drink coke a lot and then decided to stop because I was having too much. It was hell for a week then after that it was brilliant. I would recommend to completely stop having caffeine, it's not worth it.

I typically drink about six cups a day, but then there are days, even weeks, when I will go without having one at all. It really depends upon my mood and how tired I am.

I love the taste and aroma - but sometimes it feels like too much for me and I give up for awhile.

This covers it quite well I think.

Caffeine

The trick, I suppose, is trying to figure out just how much Caffeine your own chosen cups of Coffee actually contain.

This might not be that easy to do. Just on the off chance, I have just checked the labels on my Jar of Gold Blend and am actually a little surprised that there is not a figure given for Caffeine content (mG/5mL teaspoon full of powdered product, that sort of thing) I would have thought that this would have been of interest to many people.
