New gen cards?

AMD look to be waiting for 20nm, which is looking like Q4 2013.

nVidia are most likely going to rename the 600 series the 700 series, then I would expect their 20nm offering late this year/early next.

AMD's next gen isn't due until later in the year (Q3/Q4). Nvidias latest is already upon us in the form of the GTX780, GTX Titan and soon to be GTX770/760Ti. Nvidia's 'true' next gen cards won't be about for another 12-18 months at best.

Yes thats usually how AMD work it...

5850/70 <=> 6850/70
6950/70 <=> 7850/70

So the 9850/70 (or 8850/70 what ever they go with) should be about on par with 7970/50 performance with lower power consumption and price tag.

I would have thought NVidia would be keen to be no more than a couple of months behind AMD to 20nm.

Sounds like i'll just have to be patient then.
Running the 6850 at the moment and coming across some fps issues in some newer games (Crysis 3, metro) but on the most part its fine (CS/GO/Insurgency). How much are those Nvidia cards retailing at?

I expect when/if NVidia move the 600 series to the 700 they'll mostly just keep their current price points.

Said price points are quite overpriced for the performance compared to AMD though - the HD7950 is what I would call the "sweet spot" of price/performance. But obviously it depends what you have to spend.

I personally would have no qualms about buying an HD7950 now and getting my money's worth.

They only just released their 700 series yesterday, Plus the GTX 780 isn't a re-badging it's based off the GK110 core were as the GTX 680 was based off the GK104 core.
If they release their next lot of cards at the end of this year *8xx series* some seriously angry customers will band together to form a lynching mob me included.
You can't have a 6 month life cycle to top end GPU's, It's just not done.

The 480 to 580 wasn't long at all, about 8 months?

It's all abit of a mess really with GPU launches.
Either AMD wait for 20nm while Nvidia have quite a lead (Although with a price that makes me cry) or they actually do the consumer a favour and replace their aging 7XXX now.

If 20nm cards do come out Q3/Q4 of this year, given the performance increases, it'd be suicidal for Nvidia to hang tight and they'd need new cards rather sharpish afterwards.

All a bit over the place, not impressed in the slightest.
Getting sick to death of having a card from Q4 2011 moving into Q3 2013 :(.

I want a card to complement a Haswell, but that's not the GTX780 at its price.

The GTX 7XX launched yesterday :confused: Although it's only the 780 now, and they've changed the price point, 560-600 for the GTX780.

GTX770 = GTX680 with a new BIOS
GTX760Ti = GTX670 with a new BIOS

And so on and so forth...

You really can, you think NVidia cares about how much depreciation you suffer?

And?

I'll happily take that as a lighthearted bet - I think we'll see at least a GTX880 and 870 by March, probably earlier. :)

So that means the whole series will be new cards and at different price points?

I didn't say that.

Chances are the rest of the cards are going to be rebrand and higher clocked, but no idea on price points.

But the GTX780 has replaced the GTX680 at a price point that wasn't the 680's, and it doesn't look set to change.

It's a fair chunk more than the GTX680 ever was.

No, because the GTX780 isn't a rebrand of a current card - it's performance puts it between the Titan and the GTX770/GTX680 card. The GTX770 will most likely take the GTX680's price point as it's relative performance isn't going to change.
