Why is tax so high ?

I was about to buy a GTX 780 and noticed without VAT it is £100 cheaper, Come on, £100, Seriously ?
Anyone else agree this is a little much to shove on top, I know it's a luxury item but wow.

20% of £500 is £100.

You don't realise how high the tax is until you but something very expensive, a £1000 TV ends up being £1200.

It's in Black & White & your choice whether you purchase or not is what people will say.

For me top end GFX cards are out of my budget so I'm in a lose lose situation regarding upgrades.

Mind you I say that when I've just got a new to me motorbike changed my car & rekitted my fishing gear so Personal choice is everything.

They should use a fixed percentage instead! 100 quid is nonsense! :mad:

Most of above come from your council tax and it's debatable if you get value for money from them, ie waste collection is a joke.

It's the same rate for everything with a few exceptions, it's not even the highest rate in Europe either. In Hungary you'd pay 27%.

With all the Corporation tax avoidance that seems to be going on at the moment, I'm starting to like VAT more and more. At least it ensures the State takes some cut of the revenue companies make in the UK.

They tried that by lowering it to 15% and it didn't work
