My contract is up for renewal and I'm quite happy with the phone I have therefore plan to sell on the replacement handset to offset monthly costs for the year ahead.

I have the following options, which would you go for?

  • free - Windows Phone 8S by HTC
  • free - Sony Xperia J
  • £20 - BlackBerry Bold 9790
  • £40 - Samsung Galaxy S III Mini
  • £50 - HTC One SV
  • £80 - Motorola RAZR i
  • £110 - BlackBerry Bold 9900
  • £120 - HTC One X 16GB

Thanks!

EDIT:

just re-read your post :o Go for the HTC 8s then, not get very much though, only around £60-70. Not much point going for the others as by the time you pay for them and sell them on, you only get like £40 more, if even that......

What phone do you currently have?

EDIT:

If that is 16GB of storage for the "X" (the original X should have 32GB of storage), then it is actually the one XL (much better than the original X) and is an amazing price.

I currently have an iPhone.

Are you sure that the other phones don't offer a better resale oppourtunity? For example the Samsung Galaxy S III Mini seems to retail around £200.

Just double checked the HTC One and it says:

HTC One X 16GB
A stunning quad-core media centre

Key features

Amazing quad-core performance
8 megapixel camera with HTC ImageSense™
Beats Audio™ for authentic studio sound

If you are happy with your current phone why not sign up for a rolling 30 day sim only contract,

Im with Virgin and get 1200 mins, unlimited texts and 1gb data which works with my iPhone.

I pay £12 p/m and im not tied into any contracts so when a new phone comes out that I want I can sign up for a new contract.

Seems daft signing up for a 2 year deal just to sell the phone on.

There are a couple of more options I just noticed:

Free - Samsung Galaxy Ace 2
£220 - Samsung Galaxy S III LTE
£290 - Samsung Galaxy Note II LTE
£310 - Samsung Galaxy S4

Hi, I've been on the same contract for years with T-mobile. 300 mins, 300 texts, unlimited data - £10 a month.

I should have made it clearer, when I renew, its only for 12 months not 24. So as you can see, the phone usually covers the contract cost.

Last year I did the same thing I grabbed a Sony Xperia U and sold for around £100.

There is a 16gb One X available as well.

Oh didn't know that!

Which iphone? :p

If you decide to sell them via ebay or gumtree then you could get a decent price for them, however, it won't be as much as what they retail for via network/phone shops.

If you sell them via recycling sites, you get considerably less i.e. the GS 3 mini would only be worth about £80-90

Ah, it is the tegra version then.

I would look at those last 3 phones you posted then especially the GS 4, assuming you will be selling via ebay or gumtree, GS 4 could easily sell for at least £500

Thanks, I added one more (The ace 2 @free).

I have a 4S at the moment, owned it for 18 months and have no urge to change.

I think the GS 4 is the best so far as most retail shops etc. are selling it for at least £550 so if you sell on gumtree or ebay, you should be able to get at the very least £500 and the demand is very high too!

Heck I am pretty sure that someone on here would snap it up straight away at £500

Friend just sold a S3 mini for 210 on rainforest binb. But as Nexus said the demand for the S4 is crazy and I think everyone I know so far has had theirs delayed so people are going crazy for it.

I got an S4 for £419 off ebay the other day so there's no guarantee you'll get £500 or more for it.
Which by the time you take into account the fees isn't much more than you'd have to pay for it in the first place.

I've seen loads of people selling the s 4 on Facebook from 360 up to 400 and brand new ones at 420 don't think the demand can be that big.

Take into account ebay and paypal fees will take a big cut if you do get 500 for it

Are those brand new handsets though? If yes, then that is pretty cheap considering retailers are looking for £550+

Forgot about ebay fees too.

TBH, just sell the 4s, still get a pretty damn good amount and take the note 2 or GS 4 :p

Brand new in box for 420 today and the rest were saying about few days old

I buy all my phones used, just got to find one that's in mint condition. I got my s1 for £180 with receipt few days old and my s2 for £200 few weeks old, both not a scratch on them. Been looking to upgrade from the s2 now so been keeping a eye out

Yeah still a good return still if you sell on the bay, if you sell for 500 you will end up with around 400 after fees. Quite shocking really.

Wow, that is quite a substantial hit! I wouldn't bother with ebay then!

Surprised that these are going for quite a decent price, I would have expected them to have been going for at least £480 at the very minimum!

Don't quote me on this but I'm sure it's ebay charge 10% of final selling price and paypal the same so £50 each. Think you can get a app that works it out, or it might of been a site I found a while ago. Main reason you can get some bargins in the members market because people know it's only what you would end up with on ebay.

Leaning towards the BlackBerry Bold 9790 for £20, selling on forums for around £150 and £180 on ebay. Could potentially make more with the higher end phones but more risk, £20 seems like a no brainer!
