If a button existed which could instantly kill everyone on the planet carrying the HIV virus, eradicating it entirely, would you press it? This could well include yourself or your family.

According to the most recent estimates from the WHO and the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS, 34 million people around the world had HIV in 2010. This figure includes 16.8 million women and 3.4 million children under age 15.

1.7 million die a year from AIDS-related illnesses in 2011.

No. People live quite safely with HIV and a few precautions means minimal risk to others.

Better to educate them than kill them.

Not much of a moral dilemma tbh.

Aside from the obvious moral issues, I'm not sure what it would actually achieve. There will always be diseases out there - it's nature's way of controlling populations. Obviously, my answer is no.

I'd understand the rationale behind your question if you'd asked about those carrying the virus who intentionally infected others without their knowledge.

Regarding your scenario, no I wouldn't.

The number one killer in the world is heart disease, should we just kill everyone with a heart condition to save them from dieing..... I am very confused at the OP

Or kill every fat person to prevent them from getting heart disease?

They already have heart disease, you'd just be saving the NHS the cost of treating it.

As for HIV button. Not really going to affect me either way if I push it or if I don't. I think I am aware personally of 4 possibly 5 people with HIV. I haven't treated them, but the potential is there, I don't care if I have to. It wouldn't bother me in the slightest. As for obliterating a planet wide amount of people with it. Might cost the drug companies a stack of money.
Would it save the NHS anything noteworthy in this country? I am unsure what % of NHS spend relates to HIV, doubt the overall cost is much.

By my rough calculations it would cost half a billion per year for the UK. (treatment not health promotion etc)

And no I wouldn't press the button but I would like a few buttons to press for a variety of other things.
