A friend at work just pointed out these are stupidly discounted at the moment; £29.99 for the basic model which is temporarily OOS and £69.99 for the model with a glow light feature.

Have any of you got one? Just wondering how it compares to the Kindle?

I picked one up the other week.

I don't have a Kindle so can't really compare but all the reviews seem to indicate there is nothing between them.

One nice feature of the Nook though, which I understand the Kindle does not have, is the ability to flip the pages either by physical buttons on the side or by touch on the screen.

The annoying thing is that you obviously can't buy Kindle books for it but the Nook is more open than the Kindle in that it will read nearly every other book format including the ability to borrow books from your local library.

I bought a nook since it was so cheap, im not too much of a heavy reader but i fancied using it to store a fair amount of PDFs to. Whether it will work out too well im not sure.

It also supports jpeg and Gif as well, not sure when that will come in handy, but ill give it a go.

I got one of these, originally ordered the £29 one but when that was out of stock I went and bought the £69 glowlight one, damn impatience :p

I really like it though, still hate the page refresh of e-ink displays but for actually reading it's really nice. I'm glad I've got the glowlight as well, I don't use it all the time but probably about half the time depending on how the ambient light is where I'm sitting.

Books wise I had a few books on Kindle, and then had started using Google Play Books, getting the books from Google is simply downloading the acsm file for some Adobe tool, getting them out of Kindle was awkward as hell but there are ways around it to get them onto the Nook so I've got all the ebooks I've bought on it now.

Price wise Kindle, Google Play and Nook books are seem pretty similar in price on most counts, and with the Nook there are several other sites you can use to get books (Sainsbury's etc so you can shop around)

From what I can tell compared to the Kindle (don't own, but spoken to a few mates that have them), it's mostly comparable. There's the hard buttons for page turning which is nice, and it's also easier to turn on the backlight if you have it (I believe the Kindle is going through a couple of menu's? Whilst the nook is just long-pressing the 'n' button).

I was a bit dubious of e-readers tbh, I like real books, and I'm still not overly happy that there's no way to get the many real books I have on my Nook (legally at least...) but over the week and a bit or so I've used the Nook I've used it more than I thought I would. Almost regret not buying one much earlier but glad I didn't buy a Kindle with the way it locks you into Amazon.

I just have my Kindle one on all the time, you can't tell in daylight and the battery still seems excellent.

Barnes and Noble are on the verge of being bought out by Microsoft, so I wouldn't be surprised if the Nook is discontinued or rebranded.

Just got one of these, very good for the dough. Anyone who have theirs rooted it or done anything fancy, be a shame not to.

I bought one cause they were so cheap (still more of a paper book fan).

Anyway, I am suitably impressed with it for the price. Nice screen and a good size to hold in the hand.

Only a couple of slight niggles, and I do mean slight. First, the turn page buttons require a bit of pressure to work. Not a problem if you are holding it two handed, but a pain for one handed. Second, you can't configure the buttons for the left hand to be back and the right side forward. You can only set the two top buttons and two bottoms ones to either left or right. Again, not really a big deal.

Oh, and the formatting for PDF's is not good, but the fact that is can read epub is excellent.

Overall, nice little device which is bargain at £29.

Incidentally, I got mine from the Nook shop after being let down by Curry's.

Got one of these when they went on sale for £29.
Really good reader and game boy with no refresh :)

Did try getting fast mode working but gave up. 800Mhz is fast enough.

I did this for my wife...

I have removed the text since on the few icons that I had it showing on.

I have rooted mine and got the Play market working, although I haven't done much else as yet as I have been too busy with other things.

With the page turn buttons I've found it makes a big difference where your finger/thumb is on the button, in the wrong place it takes a fair amount of pressure but just a bit higher/lower it should be much easier to push, or is on mine at least :)
