Does anyone know what the extra connectors are near the sim/sd card. The one next to the sd card looks like its an input for the wireless charging back. I wonder what the connector in the sim side is for?

Jumping back a few pages, I've swapped my usual charger for the S4 charger, to enjoy the 2amp goodness.

What's the best we can get from car cigarette chargers? I know they're a bit of pot luck when buying online, some are terrible. Can anyone link to a decent car charger at a good price?

A few other questions for those that understand electrics -

How much does the cable have to do with it? I was using one cable that only allowed 300, a different cable gave 500 from the same cig USB socket charger.

If I get a 2amp, 2 socket, will that be an amp per socket?

I see one on the Rainforest that has 2 ports, but claims 3.6A. Will my phone just take the 2A that it's allowed or would this be dangerous to use?

Thanks :)

I've got a 3.1amp dual socket one. Works great. The power is shared over both sockets, so that's the total amount you can draw.

The phone will only draw the power it needs. Can't really see what difference the cable would make.

yes, the process starts at bootup. zoomee said the process starts each time he turns the screen on. as i replied to him; mine does not do this. If I kill the process, it stays dead until i either use google play music or reboot the phone. the process is inactive when im not using play music anyway so im not bothered by it.

it's worth noting that people have reported that other apps can start the process so it might be something zoomee has installed. maybe.

I didnt actually install any apps until day 3 of having the phone and was getting this before then but didnt think anything of it (assuming I was being a noob and had accidently launched it whilst I was switching the phone on).

Only thing I did was when I first got my phone, was to updated from MDN to ME2

Hi Guys

I thought I'd share my custom rom nightmare with the s4. I've had Android handsets before and never had any trouble, well until now. I basically nearly ended up with a brick... well, maybe not for a seasoned 'flasher', but it was close.

It started on Friday as I was bored at work so tried and tried to get root using CF Auto root and Odin. Everytime I tried I got no pit partition errors in odin. I thought it was a driver issue but a couple of hours later I gave up.

Then yesterday I read it could be the cable, crazy.. but worth a go, so I plugged the s4 usb cable direct into the MacMini rather than using a HTC cable or extension I was using, bingo.... this is where things got messy though.

Rather than CF Auto root I had flashed in error TWRP recovery with auto boot selected in Odin.... The flash seemed to succeed but now when trying to enter recovery without root it went to 'android system recovery' which seemed of no use at all. This confused me as I knew if I could get to download mode I could save it, but my vol up / power button boot now went to this rather than download mode.

Aftger much reading I found download mode was now volume down power button, so once here at last I installed CF Auto root and CWM. Result!!!... erm no.........

I now flashed Wanamlite through CWM and the phone rebooted, to my shock my phone was unchanged... It's a no wipe rom doh!!!, so I go back to CWM and do a full factory wipe. Half way through phone locks and screen corrupts. I try again and this time wipe complete, reinstall Wanamlite and boot... my phone is still the same, no new ROM just a overwrite of my existing setup.

Now I was getting abit ****ed I must admit, I thought...right, format time. I formatted /system and /cache in CWM which took 30mins... after this CWM was throwing loads of cant write errors and running dog slow. I selected my Wanamlite ROM and half way through it threw a 'error reading file'. Oh crap.... tried again and again but no good. It seemed my SDCARD was corrupt and I had no OS.

A quick scan of XDA and I found my saviour, Prerooted stock roms for Odin. I downloaded, flashed and I'm back (using the slim version with bloat removed and have root)

All of this I rekon in total was 7hrs of stress.....

My tip, if you don't think you can follow simple instructions accurately, don't mess with your s4, you might end up with a brick. 7hrs worth it ?, no a complete waste of time, phone is staying as it is and I'll wait for the next OTA and not mess with the dam thing again.

In total i must have spent 30 mins rooting and flashing my S4.
Only experience prior to this was rooting my nexus.

Time minus research.

Those pre rooted roms are ace

@Andy, Aldi have a multi charger for £3.99 2 USB and 3 more car charger, iirc max load was 5 amp but I only looked once in the shop, it looks handy and won't break the bank if it fails.
