Hi Guys,

Hope you can help or offer some advice.

During an intense gaming session that lasted some hours this week my PC powered down and didn't want to turn on again :(
Unlike previous PSU blow outs I didn't hear the customary "pop" "burning" or ozone smell that I had noticed before, this was maybe down to the fact I was running a decent corsair 650watt PSU and so it died with dignity. The PSU that died suddenly was from my previous machine and so was around 4 years old and had been run through the mill, so I wasn't too annoyed.

I went and bought a new PSU (Corsair 2013 Edition Gamer Series GS 800W) for my relatively new PC that I bought last summer from an online company.

Getting to my point I've installed the new PSU and to my delight everything seemed to start and work ok, no damage has been done?

But on the face of it seems there is some damage done, because some programs won't load, movies won't open at all, also shutting down seems to take forever. Also sometimes I hear this weird crackling and distortion every so often through my headphones!!?

I was thinking initially that it could be a problem with my one of my hard drives, but it seems to be affecting both of them in a similar way as most of my programs are on the SSHD, but my movies are on a second HD. What would you guys suggest I do from here?

My PC Spec is as follows;

i5 -2500k 3.39GHz Processor
8GB Memory
120gig SSHD
2TB HD
Nvidia Geforce GTX 580
BENQ XL2420T Monitor

I'd do some simple checks like use different headphones and speakers to see if the crackle occurs with them. Headphone wires can fray internally causing the symptom you describe. Also deepscan the HD's to identify any file structure errors and at worst physical damage.
