Someone in their twenties can do this!!

"An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said: "At around 12.30am a blue Ford Ka started driving in the wrong direction on the southbound carriageway from Weston-super-Mare towards Clevedon.

"It was involved in separate collisions with two vehicles and was left stationary when it was hit by two more vehicles.

"Unfortunately the driver of the Ford Ka, a woman in her late twenties or early thirties, died at the scene.

"The road was closed while the emergency services dealt with the incident and to allow us to start our investigation into the circumstances of the collision. It was open again by 7.30am.

"A family liaison officer has been appointed to support the family of the woman who died."

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash, or anyone who saw the Ford Ka being driven in the area prior to the incident, to call the collision investigation unit on 101."

I have just read up on the cause of it all now I'm home, having heard rumours of someone driving the wrong way, to be honest I was expecting it to be some doddery old cow who should have handed in her licence when her marbles checked out. but I am quite shocked at it being someone of such young age.
The ****tard apocalypse is clearly upon us!

Took me 7 hrs to get down to the Lizard peninsula because of that and another bloody crash on the A30 further down :(

For an otherwise (relatively)fit and healthy person to drive the wrong way down a dual carriageway / motorway and not stop as soon as they realised (ignoring how they got there in the first place) there are usually drink and or drugs involved.

No amount or lack of driving skills would see someone keep going when cars were piling towards them or when all the cars going in the same.direction were on the other side.

At the risk of never being able to show my face in motors ever again, I'm going to admit to doing this once when I was about 20 (stone cold sober).

Was a stretch of dual carriageway where the two sides of the road split to go around a hill so it just looked like a normal road. Obviously there were signs but I was a bit lost and really tired and trying to figure out where the hell I was and didn't notice them and turned right...

...realised my mistake about 30 seconds later when the other side of the carriageway joined back up and I saw people on the other side of the barrier gawping at me in amazement. Looked up and saw two bloody great lorries bearing down on me. World's most adrenaline-fueled U-turn ever followed and I was fine, but I still get shivers thinking about it 10 years later. Scared the crap out of myself.

I think to do that you need to be suicidal and selfish or drunk.

It happened near here last year when a woman drove up a slip road and hit an artic truck head on.

This particular slip road you can actually drive for about half a mile and all it does is take you off at another junction so she intentionally drove at cars/trucks.

My IAM advanced driving day instructor went the wrong way up a motorway slip road.

Felt pretty confident I was going to pass after he did that! :D

He did however stop immediately after realising his mistake, to keep on going is likely to have other influences involved.

The other crash if it was down at Hayle (a30) was a fatality and they closed the road for some considerable time. This same piece of road was where the guy on the motorbike lost his head :(

Something needs to be done with this stretch!

PS - You're too close to me in the Lizard ;)

I've come across people doing this a few times!
The day I passed my driving test I went out for a drive with my dad only to find a woman coming head on towards us the wrong way around a round about. Luckily, having just passed my test I wasn't exactly racing so stopped. She pulled up in front of me and started hurling abuse. It wasn't until she noticed the queue of cars behind me that she twigged...apparently not realising how round abouts work or noticing the massive signs with one directional arrows.
My aunt also managed to drive the wrong way up a slip road on to the a19. She only stopped when she got to the top and noticed the cars coming towards her. Apparently she didn't see the bright red reflective no entry signs.
Third time was a woman who managed to drive onto some railway tracks at a level crossing!

Yeah so many stupid people on the roads today... Everyone is always going around the one way systems the wrong way around here, pipping away.

saw someone doing this on the a749 last week,

most disconcerting when you see some stupid todge coming towards you at a combined speed approaching 3 figures.

I went down a small road the wrong way once, I'd been playing a lot of GTA san andreas over the previous few days, and was coming from the pub after a couple of pints. The road split with a sort of pavement section in the middle and for whatever reason I chose the right hand side. Fortunately the mate was there to laugh madly at me as I bumped up over the curb onto the pavement and then onto the correct side. Definitely showed me the effects even a small amount of alcohol can have, since then I've never had more than 1 pint and driven.

A lot of jumping to conclusion in this thread IMO.

Not all junctions are clear, far from it. Whilst I do find it hard to imagine how this happened, I do appreciate the possibility of something else being a contributory factor.

Apparently, the driver was thrown from the vehicle and struck by other cars, hence he loss of clothing - which is not uncommon in such scenarios - the why's and how's will be answered in time I'm sure.

Ultimately, a mother has died, by the sound of it 5 kids have lost that mother. :(

The ****tard apocalypse is truly upon us when people who are not in full possession of the facts jump to a public forum to berate.

Angry at your delay? I'm sure the bereaved kids will have great empathy for you OP!

Yea that's the one. caused 7.5 mile tailback of which I was 4.7metres of it.
Went to Polurrian bay hotel. ;)

Further rumours are indeed suicide for the woman, leaving 5 kids behind and endangering the families of countless others.
SELFISH ****ING BITCH.

Years ago in France my mum drove a rental car the wrong way round a roundabout, she couldn't work out which exit to take so drove round it like 5 times. My dad didn't even notice we were going backwards, I was 10 at the time and pointed it out to them, they felt very silly, lucky no crazed Frenchies also wanted to join the roundabout.

That place is on my c.v around 7 years ago haha ;)

Is there a link to the suicide suggestion? Eitherway I agree with you if she did it on purpose it's awful!

Lovely. She's barely cold and you're calling her obscene names on the back of rumours.

You are like some petty old gossiping housewife who moans and moans about the slightest inconvinience.
