eBay customer service complaint

A few weeks back I sold an item on eBay that the buyer claimed never arrived.
he opened a dispute and after a runaround with eBay, and me providing tracking information, they ruled in his favour and refunded the money.
Now today I get home to find that the item has been returned with a note informing me the buyer never called to his local post office to collect it within the time they gave him (weeks).
So I've been on to eBay again and had a right go.
So do you guys think I should keep up the fight or simply let it go?
Its easy to let it go but I'd prefer to actually make eBay sit and and take note as they have terrible customer service.

Let it go, ebay just side with the buyer all the time anyway.

In this situation they have no reason to believe you over the other party. If it's not been signed for (Which it wouldn't of if held at the PO) then it's not been delivered.

Technically it did never arrive, and anyone who's ever had to deal with the post office should know that it's more than possible he phoned to check if they had it and they still said no.
It might be worth pushing if you can be bothered and have the time but personally I'd just write it off, they've got their cash back and you've got the item back.

its easy to say that but how do we know they didn't card him? if that was the case fine. But Iv'e been dealing with this guy and something just says he got the card and couldn't be bothered collecting it so this was the easier way to deal with it.
Also I've checked his feedback and its at 94.2, with mainly positives bu the negs do read like a similar stunt being pulled on others.

Because I've seen Royal Mail do it to me, not card me and when I've chased its been at the sorting office. I've also been on the flip side of this as a seller.

I'm pretty certain that the buyer protection isn't to be used when the buyer can't be bothered to collect an item.
As I've said I've checked his feedback and this is not the first time he's done this.
So by your reckoning the next time someone buys something off you , doesn't want it, raises a case, gets refunded in full, you'll be happy to suck up the postage cost and say well the buyer and eBay were right? I doubt it

I wouldn't be happy but you can't argue against the fact the buyer didn't get his goods and you got them back. Whether that was his fault or the post offices fault who knows. I've sometimes got somebody's elses card and even somebody else's parcel from the post office so mistakes happen.

Hardly Ebay's fault for a change. Parcel not delivered so returned, closed case.

Yes, if he has done this before according to his feedback then leave him bad feedback. Nothing more you can do.

Unfortunately it happens, if it was sent to Hucknall by chance, it's no surprise.

There's always a card left, but many a time I've been in to grab my parcel and the snotty cow behind the counter can never be bothered to look for it. She has a real attitude, sighing when you give her the card then slamming parcels down in a huff.

It could be someone like her fault, not the buyer, I'd such it up this once and not sell to the same guy again, it's unfortunate, but happens

You are coming across as if you don't want to believe anything other than this is what the guy did, intentionally, so because of this I wouldn't be surprised if that's what you're reading in to his feedback.

Think about it from another perspective, his local postie and sorting office could be the issue, with them failing to card him on more than one occasion.

If you use RMSD you can put the tracking code in yourself, and see where in the network it is. It tells you if they've tried to deliver and where it's being held.

If you aren't using a tracked delivery service for ebay, you should.

Well I've thought about it and I may have to leave it at that, I still think that the system in place is flawed and eBay needs to have a look at themselves.
However I did send off the message today about the refund so when, or if, I hear back I'll post the reply on here in case anyone has had problems.
