Whats the score with pot holes and the likes?

Just tore a hole in my sidewall and took an inch chunk out of my alloy :(

The Kerb here is pretty much level with the road surface, pulled to the side as I normally do to park up and it appears that the drain in front of the neighbours house is somewhat sunk compared to all the others in the street (just checked a few others) and the kerb goes from level/<1cm to over an inch, must've only been doing 10/15mph too as I was stopping :(

Do I need someone to report this to the council before I phone and lodge a complaint? Is this even similar to the pothole situation?

Cheers

EDIT: Just measured outside, a few different points all seem to be 1-2 cm, other than the section beside the drain.... 8cm

So what caused the damage, the dropped drain or the kerb?

If it's the kerb you shouldn't have been driving on it anyway?

Claim for the damage from your Highway Authority.
About six years in Liverpool my sister drove over a slightly sunken drain cover, it was probably already damaged, but the grating came up & ripped a hole a the middle box & bent the exhaust, surprised at the damage at 15 - 20mph.
Council paid out within 72 hours, pretty impressive service, didn't even argue with the cost.

Narrow road, everyone parks with 2 wheels on the path otherwise no one can get thru, allowing sufficient room for prams and the like. Theres a chunk out of the kerb too so Im guessing thats whats caused it.

Tough ? :(
Theres a tonne of tread left on the tyre too :(

I did a tyre just after all the snow, looked into it and the process to get back is seriously long winded involving freedom of information requests and road inspection reports, then they won't pay any betterment.

I think the crux of it was if it was a tyre pay out yourself and look at the road next time if it involves tyres / wheels / suspension / bodywork go after them

As said you may not get anything from them as everyone is committing an offence by parking like that. You may find it you put a claim in the council will choose the chap option and lob double yellows down.

Probably a bit out of proportion, but somebody I know rode over a pothole (newb biker), and ended up binning his bike. Got full cost recovered of equivalent bike covered by the council with the help of a solicitor!

I moaned about a particular bit of road where I had camera footage of me being forced to the kerb while cycling, which in turn forced me over a number of potholes and I got flats to both front and rear of the bike.
I sent this footage in and 6 months later the whole section of road has been re-tarmacked
Didn't get a penny for my tyres though :(
