Hey guys,

Its nothing fantastic but the other half came home today in tears as her father (that she no longer speaks too) has got married without letting her know... she has not had this confirmed and she wants to confirm this without letting him know that she has cottoned on...

I have no idea what is going through her head as both my parents are together and all I want to do is help her.

Is there any way that I can find out through the internets about marriages that happened around Oct/Nov 2012?

Thanks for the help guys

Ring him & tell him he has Won a holiday in the Annual Catholics Sunshine contest which randomly picks people in the community to send on a glorious 2 week all expensive paid trip to Banana land, If he could just confirm the date he got married You can send his tickets over.

Forgive my ignorance, but if they grew so far apart that they never spoke to each other, why does it matter to her if he got married?

You don't need a Detective, you need a Psychiatrist.

Hi Fwend

Sorry to hear she is upset by this

Do we know a likely location of where the marriage might have taken place? I am sure there is a way to check marriage licenses applied for etc esp if they got married in a church as some times the couple have to announce the planned wedding so if one of the couple is a bigamist the other wife/husband can call them out (its a very old thing, my mum told me about it :p)

Bonjour!

I think I'm going to have to call my local council to get some advice about this... I think that marriage certs are public records right? The 2005 are the latest that I can find online... must take them a while to scan the records in I guess... or are they only public knowledge after a certian period of time?

I know when my friend got married at the local Town Hall the wedding had to be 'announced' 2 weeks before

There was a notice board in the town hall which had there wedding on there and it was then recorded that there were no reports etc against the union and the wedding went ahead

Edit: Where is Tefal when you need him!?

Edit2: here is what I mean:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banns_of_marriage

Catholic Church

Historically betrothal in Catholicism was a formal contract considered as binding as marriage, and a divorce was necessary to terminate a betrothal.[7] Betrothed couples were regarded legally as husband and wife - even before their wedding and physical union. The concept of an official engagement period in Western European culture may have begun in 1215 at the Fourth Lateran Council, headed by Pope Innocent III, which decreed that "marriages are to be ... announced publicly in the churches by the priests during a suitable and fixed time, so that if legitimate impediments exist, they may be made known."[8][9] Such a formal church announcement of the intent to marry is known as banns. In some jurisdictions, reading the banns may be part of one type of legal marriage.

Neither are on FB :)

Altrincham area her last name (the person that her Dad got married too) is Kay... she is very paranoid about the internets :)

Stelly

the dad surname would probably be more useful...

other option is be grown up and ask him, even if it's just via text.

relationship status on Facebook, it's the only definitive way, if it's not on Facebook its not official.

Lol yeah this. My sister changed her Facebook status to "in a relationship" before telling any family members. It was several months later when my mum found out, and that was only after checking my sister's FB page. I find it a bit sad really that they tell a web site before telling their own mum.

Stelly, how did your OH find out about her dad getting married? Perhaps that can hold clues.
