Blizzard: 'Titan'

Subjective that ;)

have you taken a look at Wildstar? I *think* they are taking elements of both and melding them, I know they ahve some Original WoW devs on board and some of the stuff on their webiste/dev videos hint at GW2 style elements.

I'll certainly have a gander :)

Cheers for the heads up!

More half-assed WoW expansions.

I read a long time ago that Blizzard have said they will be capping the game at level 100.

Is there any validity in this statement?

edit: oops just read some more of the page, and it appears someone has already mentioned/queried this :p

I've never heard of them capping at 100, there have been lots of rumors/guessing/'leaks' that they will cap at 100 and the last expansion will be Burning Legion/Sargeras based, then hit us with Titan.

Can WoW "last" another 2 expacs, doubtful.

it can, easily - they pretty much plucked Mists from thin air, Queen Azshara / Sargeras are still lurking, they have the background lore for much more(could even turn Sylvanas into another 1.)

they have room to move but i doubt they'll be more then 4 more expansions tops.

I think WoW will last well over another 2 expansions easily.

I think one of the real proper reasons for Blizzard delaying or cancelling the Titan project is because WoW is not dying out as fast as what they expected it to.

Why build and release a new risky IP when WoW is still going strong?

Why not when a large portion of the mmo community are desperate for a decent triple AAA mmo?

A WOW clone from blizzard will die just as fast as the WOW clones from other companies though, people want change not the same game with a new skin

You make it sound simple, its not just about change. You know this as much as i do that change can be very negative when it comes to a release of a new mmo.

I can see Blizzard scrapping the whole thing, or turning it into something else (not a mmo) which may be the case.

I cant help but think that we will never see as mmo as successful as WoW, at least not for this "next generation" that's approaching anyway, and by the time we are in the generation after the up incoming one, mmo's could be a thing of the past.

I hope i am wrong.

I would guess the opposite.

If Titan is anything other than a WoW re-skin, 8m WoW casuals will diss it, and it'll fail.

I think 90% of people really only want WoW repeated but with up to date graphics and different quest lines / zones / content. The next expansion will see it hit 10 years old.. I just want a refresh with a new start, the current is starting to really drag. (All the numbers are too big.)

Considering that every other MMO seems to fail because it's too different to WoW yet every MMO Publisher wants to make 'the next WoW' I can't see WoW ever closing. They may decide at some point to cease development but as long as people want to pay they'll keep it running. If even a million Chinese people want to pay to play they'd still make money from it.

chinese people don't pay subs like everyone else does because of the laws they have regarding online gaming.
there WOW timecards are actually for a set amount of minutes, I think it was something like 5usd for 4000 minutes back in 2011

On April 9, 2007, eight government agencies published a joint rule on anti-fatigue system for online games. The new rule requires that by July 15, 2007, Chinese online game operators include software limiting the time minors spend in online games. After the system’s implementation, minors who spend more than 3 hours in online games in one sitting will receive decreased in-game rewards. In addition to MMORPGs, the rule will also apply to online chess and board games.

Sucks to be a chinese minor LOL

I do kinda hope they make Titan like wow, and by like I mean exactly the same haha. I've tried loads of mmo's and I always go back to wow. I can't see why they can't keep wow going, new worlds maybe a couple new fractions and classes and slightly upgraded graphics. Wishful thinking maybe haha

Um, thats not really people's complaint with the reams of MMO's that have came out since WOW, total opposite. Every MMO failed because they were too similar to WoW, just without the polish that existed with older Blizzard titals.

Sadly this is somewhat true, i've tried tons of MMO's and i always go back to WoW.

And again this is also true, the amount of people who would complain that x MMO was too much like WoW and the MMO would fail because of it. Perfect example is SWTOR, WoW in space but lacked the polish and features we come to expect from WoW.

The only company to beat WoW will be Blizzard and if that means they take 15 years to make an MMO, well so be it, but them postponing Titan means good things for WoW and good things for Titan. They need to have a lot of confidence in the actual game it self to do what they've done.

You can just mass produce a quick MMO made by blizzard and hope to topple WoW, you need to make sure it offers everything WoW does and more. Which is why it'll take longer.

From a financial perspective blizz are better off fully reskinning wow, update the engine and relaunch the game. Keep everyone they have happy and attract more. They could even restart players from level 1 (letting them keep their names and achieves etc) to drag in more new players to get them more £'s.

It's a shame there's nothing new coming but I'm not terribly surprised, oh well! :p

well according to an `old` roadmap , between now and 2016 we have 1 D3 exp pak , 1 SC2 exp pak and 1 more wow exp pak.

me thinks they are redoing this for the PS4 tie in

It was stated by Blizzard in the "old days" that WoW would end at level 100 with the final battle with Sargeras (the ultimate bad guy/supervillain of WoW) however this has been repeated less and less by them as time goes on so can no longer be taken as gospel

To be fair they've screwed about their own lore so many times I wouldn't be surprised if Arthas and Ragnaros teamed up to tag wrestle C'Thun and Mannaroth.
