Posting here so that the discussion can be kept focused. A recent post in the Daily Deals thread raised an interesting point. With a lot of the humble deals etc people in the spirit of the OCuK community often post spare codes from bundles etc as well as every now and again people generously giving game codes away.

So here is a suggestion that I have seen work on other forums. Could we create a limited access Gift / Giveaway section that has certain access conditions.

These would not have to be stringent - perhaps a minimum post count and can only be accessed if you are logged in. This would be a place then that only registered members could access and share codes therefore stopping "guests" lurking here and nabbing codes.

On the GOG forums they have such a section called the gift club, though their access rules require you to apply for access, dont think that level would be necessary.

To recap, how about a section that can only be accessed if you are logged in, have a min post count of 25 and perhaps min join date of 3 months. This way we have a place where contributing members can take advantage of freebees.

I know there is the MM but as no cash is involved this is slighty different

Anyway just a thought and would be interested in peoples thoughts.

I really don't think we need to combine every thread into homogeneous mass...nor are extra forums always a good thing.

At the moment it's quite nice being able to post giveaways in threads where the people reading it all have the same interests. For instance, I'd be much more likely to give games away to people that I regularly played a game with (and hence posted/read the same thread on here). Having needless extra rules and policing of this would just mean I wouldn't bother ever giving anything away.

I'll put this in the approapriate place.

however the easy way of doing it is simply posting you have xxx spare and asking if anyone would like it. Waste of time posting serial keys as they get taken and we don't know who by. I know I'd rather my spares went to a contributing member of the forums

If there is enough interest I am sure we can make it happen, but discussions such as this in the past have been very mixed with no final conclusion.

I don't have a problem with the current system - most people seem to have moved away from just posting the serial codes, opting for random number generators and poster requirements.

I like the idea of a sub forum off PC Games with a minimum user criteria. I think 100 posts is too low, and would need to have been a member for a minimum term - 6 months?

500 posts and 6 months seem reasonable?

Would users HAVE to post giveaways in the sub section? Some might want to offer them more broadly?

Sounds like a good idea. And i say this even though i have a low post count, but that is because i'm no spammer. I say what i need to say and thats it. But i can't stand it when i see someone's kind game offer get nabbed and then not even a thank you from the receiver.

How about a sub forum like the MM (the requirements) but the system involves you giving some form of contribution (ie game codes)? But I suppose that would be hard to manage.

I think the idea of a sub forum is good though :)

I've never had a free game code and i completely agree with all the above.

Out of interest, do people take games they want to play? Or just any free game because it's free?
