Why on earth is a GTX680 same price as 770!!!!!

Sorry but people that ware thinking that NV will sell 680s below 300f mark ware just stupid..

I trace parts market for 7 years or so. And that NEVER HAPPENS ....

They never drop prices of old cards.. Rather bump prices of new ones :D
GTX480 at £200 and GTX570 at £150-£160 right after new gen cards launched would disagree with you

So if we had a socialist economy this crap would be so much cheaper? Its upto Nvidia at the end of day, if their happy with the sales numbers then thier entitled to set the price as they see fit. If you don't want to pay 300 for a card don't do pay it and if enough people follow your example then prices will eventually fall.

I'd hate to put you in charge of a business, you'd run it into the ground. What a price should be is irrelevant.

He's not in charge of Nvidia's business is he? he's is a consumer and not to complain about the price will only serve to keep the prices high.

Don't complain about people complaining about prices, its idiotic, unless you don't want cheaper hardware?

Well there's no need to call majnu and myself an idiot for pointing out the flaws in someones opinion.

We all want cheaper hardware and the only way companies will sell it cheaper is if people stop buying their hardware. The fact is Nvidia and it's partners are setting prices based on market orientation which means they've researched their target market and have worked what people are prepared to spend on their products. The fact that we haven't seen any significant prices drops over the past year suggests Nvidia have their pricing spot on.

Nvidia have dividend reviving share holders subscribed to Yacht magazine weekly.

70% of Nvidia's business comes from GPU's, its a market that is rapidly shrinking, to keep those share holders happy they need to increase their margins, that means cutting costs or jacking up the price, or both.

That's the real nature of capitalism.

It happens a lot. Or did I dream that I bought a 480 for £190 two years ago.....

That's not necessarily nVidia mandated, I Think that's rather the point.

They cut production of chips so that they dry up.

Massive price cuts will be distributor or retailer mandated to get rid of old dead stock that's taking up warehouse space in place of newer products.

Well Nvidia are no different from any other company in as much as it exists to make money for it's shareholders but how they go about doing that is up to them. They could sell their cards at rock bottom prices and have high volume and low margins or sell at a higher price and have lower volumes so long as they make money their shareholders won't really care how they do it.

Well, AMD have not paid Dividend for years, its why their stocks are used as short term cash cows.

Nvidia wants you to buy the new GPUs, not the old ones.

Heavy discounting of the old cards will be up to courtesy of the AIBs clearing their stock.

Nvidia did drop prices on old cards, but they seem to have stopped it since GTX580!!

They just greedy, I am no socialist very much against it but i dont like greed!

And for people saying they wont drop prices because people will SLI the 680 as opposed to buying a new 770, well thats a good plan if you have the kit. But SLI and Crossfire all require good PSU, CPU and board, which not everyone has, so an unplanned SLI will cost a lot more than a single 770. ;)

The way I see it lower prices equal more sales on old tech and new! :p

The trick to this game, is to buy PC Gamer and not read them for two years. Then just look forward to games coming out from two years ago, and buy two year old hardware.

You will forever be cutting teh edges.

Not really greed that is the issue. It's keeping shareholders interested, which in turn keeps the company ticking over.

The real kicker is that most shareholders are just like us, they aren't majorly loaded. Another reason this form of trading was introduced, it keeps the interest and makes millionaires of peasants feeding the loop.

It's an unfortunate downside to the system, and inevitable recessions that follow and many must fall for many to prosper.

End of the tale in layman terms, this is why 3dFX is no more and nVidia thrives. If you want to enjoy more, you cannot side with the consumer the whole hog. It always ends in tears.

Good plan if you have no social life, presuming that you would have some amount of friends that also play games.

The problem though is what do you do all day without a social life and no internet :p

Things have slowed a lot in PC hardware its not like it used to be!! :(

I always go for double the performance from what I have, but! I wont pay over £250 for a graphics card no matter what. Dunno why but thats my mind set limit as to gains versus performance and value for money when it comes to graphics cards. :)

I upgrade my whole PC every 4 years now, used to be every 12 months in the early 00`s. No point now as I think CPU`s have reached that point where its easier and more cost effective to add more cpu`s than increase ghz.
Hell we should be on 8Ghz+ now if it was like it used to be 10 years ago!! :(

I now upgrade my graphics card every 2 years or when performance doubles and the price is right ! ;)

I dunno might be me but thats how i see it!!

I know where you are coming from Itchy. I like to see a nice jump in performance for my money and these days tend to hang on until I can get close to double my GPU performance for around £300 or less.

There are plenty of people who are prepared to rush out and pay £600 for something that gives them 25% over what they already have though.

There haven't been price drops yet, but you'll probably see them as retailers want to clear stock.

Nothing too extreme though, the old cards just aren't that much slower.
