Grid 2

IMO it doesn't look as good as the videos suggested especially at 1440P but the lighting and smooth framerates are welcome and it's still good looking enough to be modern, not next gen.

You'll be fine. My laptop played GRID1 fine, and plays this one fine also.

Thanks, now the question is; do I buy it? I was a bonnet cammer in GRiD and enjoyed the semi simcade handling, two of the things that Codemasters seem to have abandoned. I do miss a lightweight online racer though

The handling isn't as good no. However me and clan mates have been waiting for a decent online arcady multiplayer racer since GRID1 servers shut down. Whilst it isn't perfect, it fills the gap and keeps us entertained.

It'll do I spose :D

i find using a fwd or 4wd car makes for better racing as most rwd cars just drift at the smallest of turns

Thing is, the GRID2 handling model means that drifting isn't actually slower than driving smoothly.

When I first started playing I tried to balance slides and smooth them out in order to be fast. But this didn't work

It was only when I realised that if you absolutely gun it whilst in a drift and steer really aggressively, you can actually carry more speed out of corners than if you had taken it smoothly.

It's pretty funny overtaking cars whilst in a full slide as they slow down to try and stop the back end slipping.

I think part of that is to do with the early level cars as well, from what I've played of the higher end sports cars and what not it becomes far more twitchy in the gameplay, they still drift just not as aggressively and won't benefit you as much as power sliding in a muscle car.

Looks great, shame about the DLC though :-/

I think the pricing will go down, if you pre-ordered it on Steam you got it all for free! Plus I don't think the DLC is all that great as it is only a few cars and then different circuit layout, like Abu Dhabi in the day.... The only interesting one is the Indy car for me.
Even though it happens every single race by tapping the brakes? So much skill involved.

I found it is easy to start a powerslide but slightly more tricky to make it a decent one where it actually benefits you. Check out Giantbomb's quicklook or Totalbiscuits look at the game to see how the average joe's cope with powersliding :p I think it takes a lot more finesse than people think but as we are core racing fans we know what drifting entails.

Still havent seen the GTR we were supposed to get, has anyone played MP and seen the GTR as it doesnt appear to be in the SP at all.

I wondered that as well, it doesn't seem to be in my garage but the other pre-order cars are. Steam says I've definitely got the pack though.

I have bought it. They really aren't hard to control at all. The game is insanely easy.

Playing it on 360/PS3?! Ack, that must look horrible ;)

The game is easier to drive compared to pCars and the like but so are most arcade games like PGR, NFS, Ridge Racer. I don't think that makes the game easy though.

I see myself as a mediocre racer who plays a lot of F1, Live for Speed and rfactor and I still find the races challenging on Hard. Also watch some videos on youtube of average gamers playing and it makes it look a lot harder than it is!

I see you point that you may find it easy though due to not having to stick to the racing line and not having to get the perfect angle to get the perfect exit. There is some sort of entry/exit precision though as each lap during a race I manage to get a faster lap meaning I must be learning some sort of racing line even if it isn't the typical turn in, apex, power out.

I actually doesn't look that bad on 360, surprisingly :p

I'm comparing it to the original Grid which I was playing last night and its a lot easier than it. Maybe it would be around the same if they gave you option to turn of assists but its a lot easier than the original Grid.
