Apparently this chump thinks this will protect children from abuse.

Mr Carr, a member of the government's Council on Child Internet Safety, said Google and other search engines should reset their default search setting to the safest option - blocking access to legal as well as illegal sexual images.

Those wanting to reach such material would have to register to search for other content, which would deter many from doing so, he argued.

Yet again they are using serious issues for their own gain.
Exploiting reasons such as "terrorism" and "child protection" to gain control over the internet and the population.

It is rather disgusting the lengths the government will go to to put people on lists.

Really is a case of guilty before even accused.

Won't happen, I've no problem with the default setting being safe. In fact it probably is on my home PC. Registering for an 'upgrade' is so full of pitfalls and loopholes as to be unworkable IMO.

Time and effort would be better spent trying to get a better understanding of the problem than throwing up arbitary barriers that won't actually deal with the core problem and can potentially be just as bad at redirecting paedophiles towards actual child abuse.

Shouldn't Google block such vile (i.e. child abuse etc) content as a matter of course anyway?

As for filtering porn... lol... who Googles for regular, run of the mill grot anyway?

I assumed "register to search for other content" would mean sign in to be able to soften the filter of the search engine - most of us will do so anyway, as we'll be logged in to Gmail, etc.

For instance, take Google SafeSearch on images - the option would only appear if you were signed in. Without signing in, it would be set to filter results.

Have I assumed wrongly?

Won't happen
That's a given nkata.

It's just that I find the actions and comments of the government disgust me more and more each day.

A dude gets his head cut off, blame the internet, snoop on everyone.
A child gets abused, blame the internet, snoop on everyone.

IMO the reason they want to snoop on everyone is to protect the large companies from the actions of groups such as Anonymous.

I know Anonymous get slated, and many people think they are just bored kids trying to increase their e-junk, but I genuinely think that Anonymous are a pre-cursor to something that will change the world for the better.
IMO the governments think the same and are desperately trying to grab hold of it before the brown sticky stuff hits that spinning thing in the corner.

Ha, then a search engine will come along without the need for you to register... There will ALWAYS be a way around this sort of stuff. It's the internet. It's too vast and wide for governments to properly restrict/control it. They will never learn.

Maybe I'm wrong but I'm guessing you don't just type 'kiddie porn' into google to find this kind of thing anyway? They must have fairly good ways to hide it and share it (maybe sending files between them or something?) Pretty sure if just anybody could happen upon it it would get reported and taken down?

It is the creation and uploading they need to deal with anyway.

Though I dislike the term, the "deep web" (just makes it sound so much cooler than it is) is indeed where most of this filth is probably to be found, would be a bit bloody silly if a child porn archive could be found with a simple Google search.

aaaah the deep web, jump on TOR and hope you dont click anything you shouldnt.

what i dont understand, is its quite common knowledge (silk road, EuroArms, white wolves etc etc ) yet nothing seems to happen about it.

That's sort of the nail on the head there. Google wouldn't do this for the simple reason that it would drive people to other search engines. They're not stupid, porn is a massive industry and they're not likely to shoot themselves in the foot that way.
