Has anyone ever been on a recreational train journey? You know with a viewing car, restaurant car, bedroom cabins and so forth. I think it would be good fun.

Seen an awesome one in Northern India on some documentary, can't remember the name of the line for the life of me but I'd love to travel it. It's like colonial India, everything is more or less the same as the British left it

Wish I had the funds available to do some of the Australian train journeys , Indian Pacific 2704 miles runs from Sydney to Perth, The Ghan 1851miles Darwin to Adelaide.
The Rockies & New Zealand are other trains journeys that appeal to me.

I particularly like the narrow gauge railways, you get tighter curves, switchbacks, more excitement with them, did a lot of the welsh ones 20 years ago.

That depends, are you in fact the most boring person on earth?

If you aren't, not to worry, after you are done telling everyone about your recreational train journey, they'll soon change their minds.

IN all seriousness a train trip around India sounds like it would be fantastic.

The only thing that bothers me is the risk of the train being set on fire by one of the warring religions which they seem to have done a couple of times. or derailing it.

Ones which exactly match your description are limited pretty much to North America. The Canadian ones in particular however are absolutely eyewateringly expensive - it is very much luxury travel and the price certainly reflects it. Very popular with retired people as they are the only ones who can justify the cost
