Would a single GTX 780 roughly equal two GTX 580 in SLI ?

Guys how much difference would there be between a single GTX 780 and two GTX 580's in SLI ??

(PS: I game at 2560x1440 Resolution)

Will use a lot less power also.
If I replaced everything I own with new stuff because the lastest stuff uses less electric or fuel etc it would cost be many thousands of pounds...;)

So am not really worried about how much i could save on my electric bill..

It's not 40%, it's almost 65% quicker, given that both overclock by what 20%, the 780 will have an even bigger lead so realistically depending on how well the games you play scale with SLI, you're probably looking at much the same speed give or take, probably quicker.

Edit: You need to normalise the results for the 580 = 100%, so you need to divide the 780's 120 by 73 to give 64% quicker at stock.

You have to take into account the scaling that SLI brings. I am not sure how many games scale 100% but I bet there are more that don't. GTX 780 is a nice card (if a little pricey) but it will consume less electric and produce less heat than a single 580, let alone SLI 580's :)

580 sli would probably edge it in most games.

But, I think your green approach makes sense :D

Plus new shiny toys are hard to resist. :)

:p

:D

Are you sure about that? I thought the 780 was about on par with SLI 570's? 580's are a little quicker?

Lol,possibly.

Well there was thread a few days ago about SLI 580's vs a 780GTX and someone was going on about how a 680 with a small overlock is the same as SLI 480's. SLI 580 isn't going to be hugely better than SLI 480's so I figured a 780 would probably beat them but a bit.

Just had a look at the anandtech bench comparisons and I would say a GTX 780 would probably be about equeal to SLI 580's maybe 5-10% faster.

I think it will be heavily dependent on the game you are playing. SLI 580's will probably edge it on SLI optimised games, but the 780 obviously will be faster in games that don't work well with SLI.

Now SLI 780's on the other hand :D Just need to go sell some body parts or re-mortgage the house....

Or i could just forget about the £988 LG washing machine i just about to go down to the shop and buy and get SLI 780's instead....Mhmmmmmmmm..:p

The only thing that really stopping me from buying SLI 780's is that there not really any games am playing right now that need that kind of power..

It was me and I said a 680 was faster than SLI 480's with a small overclock. It was you who disagreed with me iirc ;)
