Not quite but close enough, yes.
Q1 2014, yes 'IF' the IPC is up 30% and running @ 4Ghz it will be like a 2500K running at 3.8Ghz with twice the number of cores.
If its on the shelf for £170 - ~£200 the £450 Intel 6 Core will look silly and completely unjustified, it may actually come down to a level where more people can afford it.

Intel have only come 5% - 10-% more performance since Sandybridge..
If SR had similar IPS and 8 cores it would be a monster, especially if priced competitively. I would ditch my 3960X in a second lol

Almost closer to three, as we'll be edging towards Haswells successor
We're all of course assuming that 30% figure means IPC, it's probably a specific scenario, and something else.

Three generations with hardly any performance improvements since Sandybridge and more heat issues. AMD can make up a lot of ground with SR for sure.
Maybe Intel are deliberately dragging their feet to milk us, and will unleash a beast with Broadwell if they need to.. Who knows..

Not that I believe AMD will price it that cheap, they thought they were onto a winner with the FX8150 and priced it at 250 quid.
With a bit of luck they have learnt a hard lesson from that, AMD don't have the brand pull Intel enjoy, even if there is nothing to chose between them in single threaded while they get monsterd in multithreaded....
I think to be real the 8 core will be a bit cheaper than the 4770K and the 6 core a bit cheaper than the 4570K, so £180 / £220 later falling to £160 / £190 ?

Think SR will be closer to lynfield IPC, don't think that whole 30% will be exactly what we think it is.
Even still, it'll be a very good CPU, just hope it comes out soon.

How does Lynfield compare to Bloomfield? as Bloomfield seems to have a higher IPC than a lot of people (including myself) thought.

I count Sandybridge and Ivybridge as one gen, Haswell and Broadwell as another gen, and Skylake and Skymont as another gen. Because the second in each series is essentially a refresh of the first. Nothing much new going on.

Lynfield is to Bloomfield what Sandybridge is to SB-E.
IPC hasn't moved on massively from Bloomfield. It's just bloomfield came out in 2008, so its instruction sets aren't quite as fleshed out as Sandy, doesn't clock as high, hot/power hungry etc.

220Watt.. 5.0Ghz, and probably still runs cooler than Haswell
So looking at the Haswell reviews, it's possible Steamroller could come within 10-20% of Haswells IPC performance (depending on what it's being used for)
Which would be acceptable considering the (hopefully) lower price point.
..a 6 or 8 core Steamroller @4.5Ghz with that sort of single core IPC improvement would be most welcome and at least put AMD back in the game.
