just bought a retail box copy of " batman archam city "
(games for windows live).

If I was to download the game from steam can i use my GFWL cd key to activate it?

If so how does it work, doesnt steam require payment before you can download a game?

cheers.

Steam still installs GFWL after you've downloaded it. Then you need to bind the key to your GFWL account.

Absolute and utter faff for a complete abortion of a program, which does nothing Steam can't.

Well, for s Start, the Steam version of Arkham City does not use GFWL :)

It does indeed and you have to download dlc through gfwl too.
I know this after reinstalling after a format recently and being blagged for half hour as to why my dlc code would not work through steam and had to be done through gfwl whereas the base game was done through steam. Add that to the fact that the dlc took forever to download and im on a very fast connection too.

As others have said, it does sadly. :)

I've still never managed to get the HQ DLC working even to this day. I download it but it just corrupts the install and won't run.

GFWL support don't respond, Rocksteady/WB support don't respond.

If I had the power i'd make Microsoft go back and patch it out of every single game they cursed it with, all at their own expense, and then issue a full apology for how badly they did everything concerned with it in the first place.

Damn that sucks mate.
Its the hq dlc that i have too. It seemed to install ok but ill have to check that it works now as batman ac is one of the many games im actually yet to start LOL

Even putting that aside, I found it was slow to install, slow to patch (and insisted on downloading every single little incremental patch) and even then, it was flaky with taking keys, clunky, and made my mouse pointer lag. And all to do things that Steam already does, cheaper, and faster with less hassle.

Without bringing the mob down on me, I think it epitomises Microsoft's stance on PC Gaming. They can't monopolise it, so they choose to just screw it.
