De-wrinkling a leather jacket

Anyone here ever tried to straighten wrinkles out of leather? I bought this jacket from Gap or Next (can't remember) about 3 years ago for about £120 I think, hardly worn it and it's been hanging in my wardrobe for ages getting crushed by surrounding clothes. I want to start wearing it again now. It's 100% leather and the label says specialist clean only, with a cross through ironing. I hung it in the bathroom today and let the shower run on the hottest temp to steam out the wrinkles but after an hour it didn't look any different so I gave up on that. I read that it's possible to iron on the lowest heat with some brown paper over the jacket. I don't know how effective or safe that is. Any suggestions?

Iron it over a tea-towel
Apply leather feed

water just makes it crinkle, mine always looked like a prune after a sweaty gig

I'll do that then. When you say apply leather feed, can you recommend a particular protector that you think is good, or just any leather protector spray ?

Legit question, aren't these things supposed to look wrinkled?? Making it looks "new" again seems a bit like trying to get your jeans back into that "fresh from the shop" look...

You're probably right. It's just that I haven't worn it much and it's wrinkled prematurely because of it being crushed in the wardrobe. Maybe I should just leave it as it is then?

I can't imagine it getting 'crushed in the wardrobe' unless your wardrobe is like 30cm tall.

Maybe it is meant to look like that?

I'd just wear it as it is and enjoy a leather jacket...

Then again I am not the hight of fashion so that's probably the wrong thing to do

I've always used generic saddlesoap, horse riders being the ones with the most experience of leather so I'm assuming they know what they are doing :)

If you mean the creases, leather is meant to look like that.

From looking at the pics it looks like the bottom of the jacket is a bit misshapen? Could just be the way its hanging though. Just wear it and it will go back to normal.

Alright thanks guys, I'll just wear it and hopefully the creases will reduce.

You already posted that in post #5 then again in post #10. I look forward to seeing it again in #15. :D

River Island. I have the same jacket. Well, had, gave it away as I never wore it.

That looks fine though

You can de wrinkle leather jackets by hanging them in the bathroom after a hot shower either way.

That was it, River Island! I guess it looks ok, but some parts of it look a bit too creased. I tried the hot shower thing today, I'll keep putting it in there for a few days see if it helps.

I'd iron it inside out using the coolest setting on the iron with a damp tea towel to provide a bit of protection.
