AMD tease new gaming announcment on Facebook.

Price cuts to the 7970? Either that or 8970/8950 is being released at the 770GTX price point.

I'm beginning to think (perhaps wishfully) that there will be a higher tear single core GPU to the 7970 Ghz soon, perhaps a cut down GCN 2.0 '7970 XT' to see us through to the BF4 + New GPU line release.

AMD may make some sort of announcement at that thing next week that everyone is talking about, I forget the name of it.

AMD _could_ have released a 28nm top up on the 7970 pretty much any time within the last few months but haven't and have stressed that the 7000 series will be their focus for much of this year. Heard a few rumours of a 7970 extreme type card but they mostly seemed to be related to the 7990 launch and probably a mistaken assumption it would be a big single core card. (Usually my sources for AMD news are fairly good tho so suprised if there isn't something like the "7970 XT" on the cards).

Could it be possible they would add more cards to the 7xxx line up? Like a theoretical 7980 for example?

I just had a good read of that Anand link Roy tweeted, the whole thing is a very well balanced conclution. and the last paragraph...

Wrapping things up, this should set the stage for the enthusiast/high-end market for the rest of the year. According to AMD’s last schedule they won’t have a new high-end part to replace Tahiti until the end of the year, and NVIDIA won’t have Maxwell until 2014; all of this being complicated by the fact that TSMC’s 20nm process is still so far out. NVIDIA still has the rest of the GeForce 700 lineup to roll out through the next few months, but for the GTX 770 and the 7970/7970GE, the rest of the year will be a battle of prices and bundles.

I think if there is going to be and new GPU's announced, its going to be the 28nm CGN 2.0 in Q4, 'October' along with BF4.

The more I think about it, the more can't see AMD making a 7970 XT / 7980 between now and what is just 3 or 4 months away.

It looks like the most likely thing that's going to happen, tho i have absolutely no idea how far away 20nm is, AMD's roadmap which Anand say is real has the 20nm Sea Islands for 2013.

Anand don't say what processing, or what the new GPU at the end of the year is, and also go on to say that 20nm Haswell is not due till well into 2014 because of TSMC not having 20nm ready until then.

Either that's wrong, or AMD are not using TSMC, at least not initially, or AMD's roadmap is wrong.

Edit- no wait, Sea Islands is 28nm, its the the HD 7000 refresh GPU's (GCN 2.0). i'm thinking of Volcanic Islands. so yes, looks like that's whats going on.

It's confusing as we've got 2 imminent CPU launches from AMD, both centurion (Which has just had a bunch of new leaks/info today/yesterday) and the Richland APU's.

What would you make noise about? The fastest stock chip or a barely improved APU? Then again, this is AMD.

^^ APU's are AMD's vision for the future so the emphasis will be on them if both launch in similar window imho. I'm sure the FX 9000 will get lot's of coverage when it's out though, hopefully not just for it's TDP as well..

These APU's are getting really good, like AMD's videos their pretty bonkers. Remember that weird XFX video they did!?
