Atm I leave my PC on during the evenings and weekends, then when i go to work during the week turn it off. Is this Ok for prolonging the life of the components?

If all of your temperatures and voltages are in check, then it should be fine :)

I leave my sig PC (and another system) on 24/7 folding (only downtime is due to updates, required re-starts or hardware changes) Sig PC has been on for 8 days, 20 hours, 43 minutes currently, the other one has been on for 13 days, 18 hours, 27 minutes :)

I dont really understand why you would leave a system on unless it has some issue with starting up, or it is doing something during it's up-time.

Cos then all it is essentially doing is drawing in dust and wasting power :p

There was an 'important update' a couple of weeks ago :p

I turn my PC off now, after my friends corsair psu blew up and caught fire, if he wasnt home.. the house would`ve been in flames.

We got similar spec and now am scared.

I have an old Sirtec OEM OCZ PSU from back when OCZ couldn't make PSU's properly :D

I have a smoke alarm directly above my PC

Take the responsibility for the world in your hand (as far as you can ~0.0000000001% of influence) and turn everything off when you are going to leave. Otherwise some cities might suffer blackouts if nobody cares.

You may also want to think of the cost of the electricity you are using. At 10p a unit each watt of power costs £1 a year. I'm not sure what idle power consumption could be but if it's 100w and you only use the computer for 8 hours a day you are paying an extra £66 in electricity costs a year.

Electric is cheaper at night, leave it on

Is it?

I thought that was only if you were on Economy 7, or whatever it's called these days.

You get electricity cheaper than the standard rate for 7 hours (usually around 1am to 8am) but then you pay more than the standard rate for the other 17 hours.

Used to leave mine on quite a bit, most I had was 44 days bitmining & downloading (back when it was easy!) til I had a hardware upgrade/case change.

Corsair TX850M hasn't failed me yet!

It was economy 7 and storage heaters that made me think it was cheaper at night? Not sure tbh but it ought to be considering there's less demand at night
