I originally came on here yesterday looknig for advice on a new Graphics Card!

Im now tempted to improve the core of my machine. Heres what i was thinking.

I currently have the following;

I5-2500K
Z68AP-D3
Corsair XMS3 1600 8GB DDR3
Nvidia 560Ti with Accelero Cooling Unit
CPU Cooler (Can't remember of the top of my head what it is!)

Crucial M4 - System Drive
1TB - Storage Drive

Cooler Master Silent Pro Modular 600W

Fractal Design 3000 case.

I was thinking of the following;

- Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - OEM with FREE Grid 2 PC Game

- Gigabyte Z87-D3HP Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard + FREE Be Quiet! Shadow Rock Pro SR1 CPU Cooler!

And keeping the rest of my components. Obviously i could use the new Cooler that comes free with the Mobo, which saves me having to buy one, and possibly sell the game for to recoup a few quid.

Any thoughts?

Your current rig with a 7870 will be very good, would last atleast 1-2 Years more (with overclocking)

Though a new Haswell rig may last your upto 4/5 Years, as it's newer tech. It add's another 10% performance ontop of Ivy (10%-!5% over Sandy) so it seems like a great upgrade path.

If you do go with a new haswell rig the 7870 will eventually become the bottleneck.

Yeah, i thought as much.

Just thought if i upgraded now, i'd recoup more for the stuff i'm taking out, Z68AP-D3 Mobo and the I5-2500K. Maybe around the £130/140 mark, which in theory makes the upgrade £160ish

Not sure what id get for the 560ti. Cost me £125 new, a few years back, got a really good deal!

Its tempting...

Any reason you're thinking of upgrading the 2500K?

I'm still on the 920 and I can't see it going anywhere currently.

I'd whack a 7950/7970/770 in there and relax. Your CPU should last a fair bit longer yet!

If i have no intention of OC. Would it be worth opting for the 4670? and not the 4670K?

I'd be basically paying £15 more, for something id probably never use! I've never OC'd my 2500k in the few years i've had it!

Well if you not bothered about OCing atall, why not just get this:
YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-4570 3.20GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail with FREE Grid 2 PC Game £161.99
1 x MSI B85-G43 Intel B85 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £68.99
Total : £241.78 (includes shipping : £9.00).
