Thinking of moving from 650D to 900D

Hey guys,

I'm happy with my build, (link) but really love the look and potential of the new Corsair 900D, specifically because of the multitude of options for water cooling.

I don't want to go overkill, but I'm thinking of switching all my existing hardware from my 650D and simply buying a few rads and possibly a second D5 and tube res if needed.

I'd probably go 480 in the roof, 480 in the bottom, 240 in the front (or in the other side of the bottom) and swap from my bay res to a tube res. Probably worth noting at this point that I already have a EX240 rad, so the real cost of upgrading is mainly the case itself plus the extra fans needed.

I've been planning to move the case down to the floor for added desk space, so the increased size isn't going to bother me either way.

So, what say you? Good idea or a bit pointless? what components would you gor for? :p:D

So, what do people think of the XSPC RX480 as a rad? I plan to run the SP120 fans with the 7v reducers to keep things quiet. I already have an EX240 I can use for the front intake or low down and never had issues, but if there were a better alternative...

Also, would I need dual pumps for 480,480,240,CPU,GPU,GPU,res? How would I rig these up? I assume in basic serial format from one output to the next input?

Trying to research this as much as possible so I can get the parts for an overnight build while the wife is away ;)

I was eying up the 900D (not that the 800D isnt good for WC!) but I feel the jump is just a bit too big without upgrading my PC. I think if I had the cash spare for the case + extra rads I would have pre ordered already, its a monster of a case and should last ages with so much expandability. Your PC on the other hand is far more up to date so I would say go for it.

SP120's get a thumbs up from me. I run 6 in Push Pull on a 360 (used to just be push). I run mine on fan controller and at low speeds they are pretty quiet but with reasonable air flow / pressure still.

Your 650D build looks great by the way.

Looking at what you have done with your 650D build you would have a lot more creative freedom in a 900D. Your 650D build is gorgeous.

I guess the question is will the missus give you any grief for going down this road. If the answer is no or you don't care then please enlighten us with your 900D build ;)

I would say dual pumps is a must.

RX rads are amongst the best you can buy

Good to know. I have been reading up but ive been debating it against the SR-1.

The bad news is this "upgrade" is going to cost £1200 by the time I get all the fans and fittings. A lot more than I had anticipated! Perhaps ill put it on buy now pay later. It's like free money! ;)

How does one connect two pumps? Is it a simple case of running them in serial?

Also, thanks for the comments on my 650D build guys. I've just bought fresh tubing and a 3 slot GPU bridge so I can space the cards out which got me browsing the wc section and then I saw the 900D which is turning out to be hard to resist.

Yep just link one pumps outlet to another inlet and your done :)

Personally I would go SR1, I have one SR1 360 in my loop at the moment and I'm likely to replace my EK XT360 with another SR1, though a 480 this time. Such fantastic build quality and finish on them.

don't do it bud!! - you'll spend a fortune like I did and then just sit there and regret it lol! I went from a 800D back down to a 650D as I realised I didn't need all that space - cost me a fortune downgrading lol! - little bits here and there quickly add up.

I'm pretty sure you don't just sit there looking at your PC all day so I'd recommend going for some other type of upgrade with that sort of money that would benefit you. 1440p monitor? soundcard and cans? maybe I'm getting too old for all this lol but I hate having to break my loop up these days - takes ages to put back together let alone transfer into a different case!

You want a new toy - Get an Aquaero 5 unit for all the watercooling loveliness ;)

Change would primarily be cosmetic so no point asking advice as its down to whether you want to spend money for look/feel of rig and the fun of an upgrade.

Great case though. :)

I've decided to delay the upgrade until I upgrade the core hardware. I can't justify the expense whilst keeping the same hardware.

The 900D is a fantastic case but if you are just going to move your current setup over to the 900D it could end up looking worse. At the moment you have a really nice looking setup but it would look lost in a 900D with the extra space around it and the longer tubing you would need.

I use a very large case myself (due to the hardware in use) but it does not score big on looks.

bah no-one looks at the loop, too transfixed on the titans!
