More Mondeo trouble again this time I got another flat tyre and after a bit of detective work by my local Kwik Fit (don't laugh, I trust them :p) it seems the alloy wasn't very well repaired last summer and is slowly letting the tyre down again.

Add to that the broken air con, brakes needing doing and the myriad of other work I've had done I'm fed up with the damn thing and want out.

Sadly the real problem here is money (as always) - made some poor choices several years ago which still leaves me with some debt to pay off meaning I can't easily load up a 0% credit card with a cheap car and be done with it.

To get the car to a trade in worth condition I feel that I'll at least need to repair the wheel and get a new tyre - I'm not confident enough in the cars condition to pass it on to someone else.

Ideas? I have considered some sort of bank loan but I'm not sure how good a rate I'd really be able to obtain as I have nothing to secure the debt on other than a car to be purchased.

It's a bit of a ramble but I don't really know what to do with the damn car anymore - I just want something reliable! :(

Tyres and brakes are pretty much standard maintenance for any car tbh.

Why get yourself into more financial issues by loading up when you can just get these issues sorted relatively cheaply?

Can you list everything that's wrong with the car? Your wheel for example could be sorted by just getting hold of another one from gumtree etc. Brakes are dirt cheap for a Mondy, can do them yourself to save the labour etc.

If you're really that skint then buying something else might be a poor idea.

Of course if it really is hanging then getting rid and taking a punt on something else could be worthwhile too

To get the car into a trade in condition.......Oh you mean repair it's main faults then..

Just fix the ***ing thing and drive it.

First off i'd be looking for a cheap wheel and tyre of the bay..... having said that my old 3 series was the same, in the end it was just corrosion on the inside of the alloy not making a good seal so once that was sanded back it was good as new :)

the brakes and wheel and tyre will make bugger all to trade in price for the majority of garages the ac might but wether they notice is another thing

This should be just a case of getting it fixed and maintaining it properly.

The OP will only run into the same "problems" again when the brakes wear or the air con needs regassing on his next car.

Buying a new car because you have got a flat tyre is ridiculous.

All cars cost money to maintain, so the idea of buying another car because a few things need to be fixed just doesn't add up. Brakes and tyres are both consumables that should be replaced fairly regularly anyway.

But, isn't required for the car to be safe and reliable.

Granted I'd want it fixed, but then I'm not in a position where I'm looking to spend a pittance replacing a car.

Oh I agree, just added for the sake of clarity and assuming he wants it uring the current warm spell.

:D
