I've got an almost unhealthy obsession with Star Wars at the moment. I've played all of the games, watched the films, read a lot of the graphic novels and currently reading the Darth Bane novels at the moment. Next novel on the list is Darth Plagueis. I'm not really into the expanded universe unless its old republic or set after the events of ROTJ.
Are there any other decent books I should be reading? i.e. DK character encylopedia etc.

Heir to the Empire trilogy by Timothy Zahn is a must, in my view it is head and shoulders above most of the other books.

It's set a few years after ROTJ so should meet your criteria.

I also really enjoyed the Xwing books by Michael Stackpole and Aaron Allston, they mainly feature Wedge Antilles with the main film characters making appearances from time to time. They have some great descriptions of Space dog-fighting which brought back some very fond memories of multiplayer Xwing Vs Tie Fighter matches!

Again set after ROTJ...

Edit - Also check out Shadows of the Empire by Steve Perry which is set between Empire Strikes Back and ROTJ, it very nicely fills in the events between the two films and has a cracking villain.

Listened to about a 1/3 of the Darth Plagueis audio book - seems pretty good though it's my first Star Wars experience outside the 6 films & recent cartoon.

As well as the Timothy Zahn books I recommend The Han Solo Adventures by Brian Daley - great characterisation!

The Heir to the Empire trilogy is excellent and Splinter of the Mind's eye is also worth a read.

They did go a bit nuts with releasing books about 10 years ago and the quality control went right down, so pick and choose carefully

Is there any list's?
Detailing all the books, set before + after the movies?

I just started reading Star Wars books (on my first) After reading ever Halo book.
Presently reading:
Legacy of the Force - Betrayal.

Just finished the second Darth Bane novel and it was fantastic. The plan is to read Darth Plagueis after the 3rd Bane novel and then move onto the Thrawn novels.

I've not read these for years but there are some decent books if you're a fan of the series. Other people have said these but just to reiterate:

1) Timothy Zhan - Heir to the Empire Series (aka Thrawn Trilogy) is by far the best, it should be your 1st choice
2) The Michael Stackpole X-Wing Series - Starts with Rogue Squadron is good too.

Finished reading Darth Plagueis and Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader.

Plagueis was a great read; very well thought out and coherently written, with plenty of detail, but it seemed to focus a lot more on Palpatines rise to power in the latter half. However I still enjoyed it a lot, as much as the Darth Bane Trilogy. 4/5.

Dark Lord on the other hand was not as well written. I managed to finish it in 2 days and there wasn't much detail or sub plots as Plagueis. I enjoyed it but not on the same level as Plagueis or Darth Bane. 3/5.

There were some good short story collections floating about.

Tales of the Bounty Hunters
Tales From the Mos Eisley Cantina
Tales From the Empire

They're set around episodes 4, 5 and 6.

The only downside to reading the X-Wing books is it will make you pine for a new game which will never be released.
